Maybe it was the excitement of finally seeing him live, but it was an incredible night. My friends and I arrived several hours early so we could be sure of getting good seats, so I ended up with the privilege of being able to help RS carry his guitars and equipment in. Also, while waiting, I had the pleasure of meeting Smokie from this list (Hi, Smokie!) Amy Rigby opened the show with a great set, and after about three songs, I realized this was not the type of woman a guy could tick off without becoming lyrical subject matter. As soon as her set was over, I purchased her "Sugar Tree" CD. Richard performed two sets that were just incredible. There were a couple of blown lyrics and some tuning problems, but it was still easily the best concert I have ever attended (and I've been regularly going to concerts for over 20 years.) Richard was loose, with lots of stage patter, and he was brought back for three encores. On the last encore, he picked up one guitar, tried to decide what to play, then he put that guitar down and picked up the other, strummed it a couple of times, and still couldn't think of one to play, put it down and picked up the other guitar again . I finally yelled out "A Summer Wind" , he said ok, and played a great version of it. Afterward, I got to chat briefly with him, and had my photo taken with him! I can't wait until the next time he's in the area. Yeah, he is something, isn't he? :-) Out of simple curiosity--did he do any covers? I am just now up at 3. :-) But, we had a little bit of a longer drive, I think, so I am excused. It was fun to meet Kevin, as I also got there early, although I had reserved tickets so we got to go in first and got the center stage table. I have to say I wasn't very impressed with Amy Rigby, but maybe it's just not my style, or maybe I was just thinking "C'mon, go away, we want Richard!" Common problem among Richard's openers, I'm sure. :-) Anyway, to answer your question Vanessa, here's a (not in any particular order) set list: You Stay Here Next Best Western Are You Happy Now Wisteria Lazy Easy Street Summer Wind, Cotton Dress Mary Magdalen Money For Floods Sing Me Back Home The New Unfinished One That the Guys in Ann Arbor Told You About Sonora's Death Row Reunion Hill Confession Fishing Arrowhead SMOKEY "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." -G.W.
