Here's the nice irony... I love receiving compliments about my genius as a manager, but actually, we leave it pretty much up to our artists as to what albums they want to make (ah, and that _is_ the zen genius of our management). I am (honestly) just as curious as the next person about how RS is going to sculpt these shows. Just so y'all know, we _are_ recording the Outpost show as well as the Emelin shows. The recording team for the live album, btw, is Ron Schrier (Patty Larkin's live sound guy) and Ben Wisch (who mixed PATERSON), who last teamed up on Patty's A GOGO, her live album of last year. I _believe_ RS's plan is to have the album be predominately RS, with just a few songs w/the band. We'll see. BTW, the person who asked about Mr. Campbell - right now, sadly, Larry will be off with Mr. Dylan during all the recording dates. The fall '00 band of Lincoln, Denny and John Putnam will be the one committed to tape. DISCLAIMER: I do still try to get our clients as much money as possible for their live performances... zen genius or no ;-). xx - Charlie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 08:32:04 -0800 From: Brian Subject: Re: [RS] Irony Charlie; Is Richard going to the Palms in Davis after his performance in Berkeley in May 10th at the Freight and Salvage? http://www.palmsplayhouse.com/ Brian "Young/Hunter Mgt." wrote: > My pal Elwestrand wrote: > > Lastly I could do without the band entirely. I can't imagine the overhead he's taken on with his Argentina commute, which Charlie mentioned. And I want Richard to be prosperous enough to be able to take good, long breaks so he can write good, new songs. Heck, put a tip jar out there and I'll kick in an extra $20. On the live album, if the idea is to feature the material from the first three albums, whose master tapes RS doesn't control and therefore can't re-release, then it should include the essentials. But how many songs can be packed in there? My list has 16: 1. AYHN, Courier, Fleur, Sparrow's Point, Nora, Kenworth. 2. Summer Wind, Fishing, Mary Mag, Lazy, Arrowhead. 3. Next Best Western, May, Iron Gate (punched-up DADGAD version), Reunion Hill (slowed down solo version), Saw My Youth Today. I wouldn't be interested in sacrificing any of those to fit a cover in, unless it were Cold Missouri, maybe. (Or an Eleanor Rigby duet with Paul McCartney.) As to where to play while in the Bay Area for a wedding, well, The Palms was pretty packed for Richard's last two shows, where Richard mowed 'em over... The buzz is definitely out. And I think Richard would go over huge at one of the concerts put on by KVMR Community Radio in Nevada City, which is one of Northern California's greatest folk music havens. Really, one of these days Richard HAS to get to Nevada City. - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 13:05:51 -0500 From: "Batgirl of the Night" Subject: [RS] Anyone Else Going To The 'Outpost In The Burbs' show on Feb. 2nd? Hello fellow listers! I apologize for the 'cross-post' to both the Lucy & Richard list but I needed to see if anyone on either list might be able to help me out. I am going to the Outpost In The Burbs show on Feb. 2nd (Lucy & Richard) and was wondering if someone else is going that might be able to squeeze me into their car? I promise to be a great 'road buddy'! I live in Queens, NYC. But I can get to Manhattan or Brooklyn if anyone is leaving from there. Please contact me at dscully73@hotmail.com if you could help me. I have never been to the Outpost venue before and I'm a bit apprehensive about traveling alone. Thanks everyone & take care!! To chime in quickly but briefly on several hot topics, though it seems I may be a day or two late. On the live album definitely definitely "Sonora's Death Row," or "Once in a Very Blue Moon." As for the RS originals I'm of the same feeling that people seem to be having about the list if the aim is a GH type compilation. But my personal wish list looks quite different - ISMYT, By Now, Traffic, Ascent - all those uplifting faves. But then how about the "my baby's in spain, and I'm in pain" song as a hidden track to kind of pull it back out of the depths. As far as CA ticket prices go, when I first read the original post I could sympathize with the sticker shock feeling. I keep stubs and have a bunch in the $8-10 range from several years ago, when I lived in Chicago. But then I realized that for me at least the issue is not so specifically that an RS concert costs more here, but that everything does. COL is a big huge deal in the SF Bay Area and so economics can permeate almost every decision (especially if, like me, you teach in the public schools and have accepted the fact that you will never ever be able to own a home) - I'm sure Manhattaners can sympathize. For the record though, I'd pay whatever to see RS play. I think that's all for now. from rmc. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 16:46:58 -0500 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: [RS] Irony Charlie informed us: <> I sure hope that this record doesn't come off as flat as Patty's!! Pat ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 18:48:54 EST From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: [RS] Ticket Prices I'm pretty used to paying just $8-$10, maybe $15, around here to see a Gorka or Wilcox or Paul or Conoscenti. Of course, I think they're ALL worth much more than that to see, as is Richard. And I like to see them making money, which is why I always buy several CDs from them at shows. I even help sell CDs at shows for some artists, and tho in exchange for that they don't want me to pay admission, I often do. I want to see them succeed, and I want to pay them for the joy their music brings me. I think the problem, for me, with a price as high as $20 is that I often bring along "recruits" to a show. I find it extremely hard to get friends to pay $20 for someone they aren't familiar with. A lower admission price helps bring in people who aren't familiar with the music and perhaps creates new, faithful fans who will attend future shows as well as purchase several CDs. There's my 2 cents. :-) SMOKEY "The memory is a useful thing, store the good stuff in the easy to reach places, put the rest in the attic with the cobwebs where it belongs..." - -Ellis Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 18:52:03 EST From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Twenty Twenty In a message dated 1/23/2001 5:00:58 AM Eastern Standard Time, Vanessa writes: << I don't understand, people.
