In fact, when I first read John's note, I thought he was commenting on how _reasonable_ the tickets were (as compared to things like "shed" shows!). It just shows how different people's perceptions are! << Hi Charlie. About a post later I explained my perspective a little more. I would gladly pay more to see Richard, but compared to what I HAVE been paying to see him, it caused sticker shock is all. Thanks for the math lesson though. I wish Richard could get more money too. The truly great artisans should, imo. I have been under the impression for a long time that tours don't genrate much revenue and aren't intended to do so. I thought you toured to promote a record and that record sales made the real money. Obviously Richard has a sweeter record deal than most. And I realize it costs a little more to get Richard to the States these days... j a c ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jan 2001 15:17:13 -0500 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: [RS] Ticket prices and live album Newcomer Sue (welcome!!) wrote: <> Charlie . . . can you help her out with this? Listening to _Sparrows Point_ the other day, I was revelling in the work that Lucy did on that disc. My favorite version of "Mary Magdelen" remains the _Che Lives_ version (albeit with Dar as lead vocalist). I think that Dar's and Richard's voices work extremely well together. I would really hope that more collaboration between these three wouldn't come down to tubers! Oh -- and speaking of Dar . . . she'll be doing a solo show in East Lansing, Michigan on March 16, presented by the Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse. With this concert, the Fiddle will have completed the CryCryCry triumvirate, having had Richard (twice) and Lucy grace our stage over the last several years! Details can be found at www.tenpoundfiddle.org or by e-mailing me. (Heck, just > about anyone on the planet is bigger and wider than me.) I was thinking the same thing, Ron. Well, not the bigger and wider part :) I went through the first three albums and came up with "Richard best of songs that need to be on the album for that reason", and my personal wish list, with some overlaps. Classics that need to be on there, IMHO: AYHN (I could do without that one, too), Next Best Western, Reunion Hill, Mary (with Lucy), Nora (with Lucy), Fishing, Kenworth, and I think The Courier falls into that category, too. Additions I'd love to hear: Howling at the trouble (I know, that's unlikely), May, you again. I think at least one song from SNP would be a good thing, in terms of continuity. Confession, as a "wider audience"-choice, Transit would be my own favorite though. Or waiting for the storm, again with Lucy. > > It would also be great if the CD were to include at least one song we've > never heard before. that's a great idea. > I have mixed feelings about whether I'd like Lucy > and/or Dar > to make an appearance, but I'm guessing that's a political > hot-potato that I > don't wanna touch. Lucy. Definitely Lucy. I don't care about political hot-potatos, I want Lucy's wonderful harmonies :-) How long do we have to wait until we can buy that album? :-) Katrin - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- i do it for the joy it brings because i'm a joyful girl because the world owes me nothing and we owe each other the world ani difranco ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jan 2001 16:55:20 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Live Album << How long do we have to wait until we can buy that album? >> Well, from what I've heard, it's being recorded at the two Emelin Theater shows in Mamaroneck on March 16/17, so I'm betting it wouldn't come out before late Summer. BTW, Charlie, Musi-Cal only has these shows listed if you search "Richard Shindell Band" and doesn't show up on a "Richard Shindell"-only search, so someone (Michaela?) might want to fix that. In fact, there's a whole bunch of songs from the RH record that I'd like to hear on a Live Album provided it's just Richard and his guitar sans all that Nashville Sound stuff. And maybe a new original song none of us --and I mean none of us --has ever heard. I want this album already. And I also want to add something about AYHN--I do get sick of this song, but i *loved* the full-band version I heard last April at the Iron Horse. It sounded different enough from the original SP version that I could definitely listen to it a few more times. - --Rebecca (soon to be snowed in--yippee!) >>> RockinRonD@aol.com 01/20/01 17:42 PM >>> Personally, for the Live Album, I'd love it to include a version of Reunion Hill where it's just Richard, his voice, and his guitar--the slower, more dramatic version that he played so magnificently at the Bottom Line early last year.
