I just purchased my tix for May 10 at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. $16.50 for a Thursday night general admission!!! Sheesh. How soon 'till he's playing arenas and the venues are charging $20 or more for lawn seats? Hold on a minute. Richard's coming to California in May. How did I miss that? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 10:02:06 -0800 From: "Clary, John (CLRY)" Subject: RE: [RS] sticker shock >> Hold on a minute. Richard's coming to California in May. How did I miss that? << Use Musi-Cal my friend. You can set it to send an email for whatever you want: artist, venue, etc. Richard said in November that he wasn't coming back to CA for at least a year so I was surprised too, but happy none the less. And the price doesn't really bother me that much. I just figure Richard won't be getting a bigger cut and we're buying the Freight a new sound system or something. j a c ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 13:36:18 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: RE: [RS] sticker shock >> And the price doesn't really bother me that much. I just figure Richard won't be getting a bigger cut << These days, I've figured $20 is basically the standard cost for a concert. Heck, I've been paying that for the local house concert series here in NJ, and paid $20 for Richard at the Bottom Line, $25 for Dar's shows, etc. If I get sticker shock about anything, it's the way the CD costs keep creeping up and up. Average price of a folk show around these parts (upstate NY) has been roughly $15. For Dar, it's a little more (I think I paid $18 when she was here last), for others not quite as nationally known it's usually around $10-$12, or depending on the venue, on a donation basis. I saw Ellis Paul for $14 last Sunday, and for that price, I got to see a little bit of Darryl Purpose and hear Louise Taylor sing back-up during the encore. It was heavenly. kelly, who thanks the goddess that one of the local colleges has a folk music series that she can attend for free because she's affiliated with another local college. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 11:23:31 -0800 From: "Clary, John (CLRY)" Subject: [RS] Speaking of Dar >> For Dar, it's a little more (I think I paid $18 when she was here last) << Speaking of Dar, a friend on the ecto@smoe list told me that Dar was going to air on Austin City Limits this week, but a quick check of their site and my local PBS sites show Phish, Widespread Panic & encores of Fats Domino. Here in Albany they're showing Shelby Lynne on the 22nd, which is a couple of months after it originally aired. From the looks of my local schedule, we're showing the episodes in order, just behind schedule. So I imagine I'll see Dar sometime in March/April? HTH, kelly, who is feeling chatty today for some reason... ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #14 **********************************
