Smokey asked: > Does anyone know what happened to 1/27 in Dayton?? It's not on the tour > schedule anymore. There was miscommunication between the club and Tim Drake, Richard's booking agent. The club thought the show was on the 26th and booked someone else in for the 27th. Tim thought the show was on the 27th and booked RS in to Columbus on the 26th. Problem was insoluble for January, however the show was rescheduled and Richard will play Dayton on Sat., March 10, the day after he plays the Ark in Ann Arbor (March 9). - - Charlie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2001 14:07:17 EST From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Dayton? >>>. OkI know this is the Richard Shindell list but since he's not coming back here until May (i believe) I just wanted to pass some cool stuff on. For all those who wanted to see Dave and Tracy in Santa Rosa next weekend but found out it's sold out NEVER FEAR! They are going to be on KRCB that day doing a VERY limited seating member's only interview/performance on 1/13 at 2pm. I'm going to be running the show which is quite exciting and intimidating. I've been frantically trying to figure out how many chairs we can fit in the room. Plus I'll be engineering. SCARY! So listen to the station for that one. 90.9 and 91.1 in Sonoma County. You might be able to actually hear the exact moment when I have a heart attack!! Thought I'd throw that out in case anyone is in the area and wants to listen. They are also playing in Davis and San Jose which I think John is going to. I would go but I'll be trying to arrange the chairs a few thousand times. katie http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~stohlman/ ps - the modern hicks are playing at the freight in Berkeley on Tuesday the 9th. They are really great so everyone in the area should GO!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2001 19:15:04 -0500 From: patrick t power Subject: [RS] Re: Mary Magdalen(e) Since the list is rather slow, and since I've already taken it off-topic with my Pete Townshend missives, here's another little jog (albeit somewhat related by song content) . . . I was listening to Loudon Wainwright III's _Attempted Moustache_ CD the other day and considered the similarity in his and Richard's historical treatment of Mary Magdalen(e). [New title and lyrics by LWIII, based on "New York Town" -- music by Woody Guthrie] I was standing down in Jerusalem town one day I was standing down in Jerusalem town one day I was standing down in Jerusalem town one day Singin' "I am the Way" I can walk on the water and I can raise the dead I can walk on the water and I can raise the dead I can walk on the water and I can raise the dead It's easy, I'm the Way Don't tell nobody but I kissed Magdalene Don't tell nobody but I kissed Magdalene Don't tell nobody but I kissed Magdalene I said "Mary, it's O.K. I'm the Way" Every Son of God gets a little hard luck some time Every Son of God gets a little hard luck some time Every Son of God gets a little hard luck some time Especially when He goes around saying He's the way I am the Way I am the Way I am the Way I am the Way An interesting side note about this was that Robbie Williams (pop star from England -- _The Ego Has Landed_ ) was taken to court by the Guthrie estate for stealing lyrics that Loudon wrote. I believe that Loudon decided that all of the royalties of the song were to go to Guthrie's estate. Pat ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Jan 2001 23:27:55 -0500 From: "Norman A. Johnson" Subject: [RS] Signature Sounds in Valley Advocate The latest issue of the Valley Advocate is their list of the best and the worst of the year. They gave out a halo to Richard's label, Signature Sounds. "This Whatley-based record label has emerged as one of the best small labels in the country, providing a home for both local artists of note and better-known musicians from throughout the reason. This year, Signature released a number of acclaimed albums, ranging from the likes of Erin McKeown and Peter Mulvey." No direct mention of Richard or SNP but I'm sure those references were left on the cutting room floor. On a related note, both the Valley Advocate and The Nields mentioned that WRSI "The River" would soon move to a new location (93.9) on the dial and have a stronger signal. Now, I'll finally be able to hear it. Does anyone know when this will happen. I was told that the river would switch signals on new year's day, although I don't know if it's happened yet because i'm not in the valley right now. If the change hasn't happened yet, I'm sure it will within days. And yes, they will have a much stronger signal than their previous one, which will make getting the station in Northampton and Amherst much easier. On the station, they're announcing February 1 as the day. And I'm looking forward to it, since it means I'll be able to listen to them all the way to work, and not have to switch stations in Holyoke. I've already got the new frequency in my radio's memory. jeff. - -- If you don't want for them to hate you cause you beautiful How can you want them all to love you for the same thing Shivaree - -- (an index of free radical activity) http://www.onefreeradical.com/Journal/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2001 23:35:39 -0800 From: j a clary Subject: [RS] beautiful Jeff Gilson signed off: >> If you don't want for them to hate you 'cause you beautiful how can you want them all to love you for the same thing? << Bwah hah hah.
