Since all you wankers are bragging about how FAR you've traveled to see Richard, I'll brag about how SHORT A DISTANCE I've driven to see him -- about 15 miles -- when he was the headliner last year of our Main Stage performances for the Folk Music Society of Huntington at the Centerport Congregation Church here on Long Island. Took me about 25 minutes door to altar. And it probably took Richard just under an hour that night to drive home to Valhalla ( I know this because I offered him our guest room for the evening but he opted to drive home instead). Alas, would that this could happen again. ReelinandarockinRon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 09:30:25 -0500 From: "Sally Green" Subject: [RS] You keep the vase; I'll keep the rose Hi everyone - I was cleaning the kitchen this morning and put on Sparrows Point, which I hadn't heard in a while, and was again struck by what great music RS creates. "Memory of You" is such a great song. Richard's coming right to my backyard next year! He'll be playing at the Paint Branch Unitarian Church in Adelphi, MD (right next to Silver Spring, where I currently live) on Feb. 5th. It's been a while since I've not had to drive at least an hour to see him. Oh yeah, someone asked how far we've traveled to see Richard. Well, I've traveled to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, which is pretty darn far (I used to live in Michigan, so it was about 12 hours driving), but that was to see the whole festival and the Dar list, so it doesn't quite count. In the same way I don't count Cry Cry Cry shows, which I traveled hither and yon to see. So I guess the farthest I've traveled to see Richard alone is about an hour or two's driving. Gosh, that's not very impressive. Oh, and on an admin note, I'm going home to Ohio tomorrow for about a week to spend the holidays at my mom's house. I'll be checking in at least once a day, but just a reminder: if you wish to $ub or un$ub, then send your messages to majordomo@smoe.org, not to the list, because otherwise they get bounced to me. I usually just approve them through rather than writing y'all back, but since I'll be less frequently online, there could be a delay of a few days. Also, remember not to quote the whole digest or send HTML messages. This list is remarkably good about stuff like that - it's just a reminder, not a remonstrance. Happy Holidays! - --Sally sallyagreen@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 09:37:36 -0600 From: "Timothy Bruce" Subject: [RS] Dave and Tracy road trip -- I wish I had one to take! Richard and Lucy and even Dar seem to get around these parts at least once a year, but Dave and Tracy are really scarce (though they do sometimes get as close as Michigan, due to Pat!). Dave McKay wrote: <> ...which I did as well, (Makor, then Falcon Ridge). While I had seen many of the FRFF performers before at gigs closer to my home, Dave & Tracy were the new act I was most excited about finally seeing. Would I do it again? Well, I already got my free plane tickets for next July though, at this time they are through the airport in Albany ,(home of Dar and Karen Savoca!). IF Lucy and Richard scheduled another "FRFF Eve" show, I'd probably re-route myself through NYC, though....last year's City side trip actually went very smoothly (except when driving Dave, OzWoman, Nicole and Sharon home at 2:00 AM and (name withheld) instructed me to turn the WRONG WAY down Broadway!....that and being unable to wake Jessica on the morning of the drive up.....and missing our rendezvous with Sarah of Maine on the Taconic Parkway.) By the way, did I just violate some unwritten law about mentioning the next Falcon Ridge before the turn of the new year? Please cut me some slack! We've already had 18-24 inches of snow and arctic temperatures here and the first day of "Winter" isn't until tomorrow! Happy Winter Solstice everybody! Our Drum & Dance celebration is tonight....at a place called the "Tapestry Folk Dance Center" on Minnehaha Avenue in South Minneapolis.... When I lived on 15th & Green in Philly, Richard was only 2.0 miles away when he played the Tin Angel. I believe that officially makes it a hop and a skip, minus the jump to get there. Of course, now that we're in Arizona, one of the most folk-deprived states in the union, we had to fly approximately 1300 miles to sit 6.5 feet from him in Salem, Oregon. You were hoping that 2200 miles would be a record amongst these folks. It may be for a D&T show. According to MapQuest it's a 48 hour drive! Or, possibly you're actually stalking ME and using your love of Tracy's new hair cut as a cover. BTW, still no call back for tix for this show, but it won't sell out before Jan 1st. I gotcha covered, dude. Also, Gryphon in Palo Alto has a sunburst Collings OM, so maybe I can distract Dave on Saturday morning while you make other plans? The house concert Sat night is only a 1.5 hour drive away so you'll have all day, stalker boy. =) j a c ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 09:24:46 -0800 From: katie stohlmann Subject: [RS] Drive, They Said... Well, Richard played at the Methodist Church in Sebastopol last July and it's supposed to be about 10 miles from Santa Rosa (where I live) to Sebastopol but since I live on the extreme west side it was only about 7. It took me 10 minutes while being followed by the concert producer. But I bet Peter could beat that since he lives in Sebastopol. If I lived at my dad's church it would have been a few hundred feet. So I take it that John and RonG are going to the Dave&Tracy house concert in Santa Rosa this January? It's SOLD OUT! So I can't go (but i hear it's a crowded crowded place, not anything like my friends who do house concerst). OH! Maybe Dave&Tracy will be on the radio that day since it's a Saturday! Sometimes they do that. Yay! katie http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~stohlman/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 12:25:39 -0500 From: "REBECCA Lay" Subject: Re: [RS] Drive, They Said...
