It may not be Suzanne's finest hour, but Days Of Open Hand has some brilliant moments (Tired Of Sleeping, Rusted Pipe, Book of Dreams, Room off the Street, Pilgrimage), and is much more listenable than 99.9F, In Liverpool notwithstanding. To my mind, Suzanne has never been so good in concert as she was during the DoOH tour, and that's pretty damn good! Everyone would send in there Top 10 best CD's they've purchased this year. The list usually consist of albums released this year, but Im open to any variations depending upon the group's recommendations. I have seen these lists compiled on other groups and it is a wonderful way to discover other artists that might never have explored and found elsewhere. And "early returns" make a wonderful list for Christmas presents! Any interest? Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 20:16:57 -0500 From: Elwestrand Subject: Re: [RS] Days ... Yes, Dave I wholeheartedly agree with you. Room off the Street is one of my all time favorites. Now that Richard has moved to Argentina he would be the perfect person to cover it! It would be very cool to here him do such a sexy song. Well, actually, maybe that would be too much for me! =) E Room Off the Street Somewhere in a room With a poster on a wall Of a man with his hand In a fist Is a woman who's drinking And her dress is so tight You can see every breath That she takes Every sigh, every sway You can hear everything that they say Something's begun like a war Or a family or a friendship Or a fast love affair The man on the wall Is his symbol of freedom It means he has brothers Who believe as he does She is moved by The thing that she sees in his face When he talks of The cause Every sigh, every sway You can hear everything that they say Something's begun like a war Or a family or a friendship Or a fast love affair She leans against him Her dress is so red They talk of the salt And the truth and the bread The night goes along The fan goes around In the room off the street At the end of the town Every sigh, every sway You can hear everything that they say Something's begun like a war Or a family or a friendship Or a fast love affair ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 21:28:49 -0500 From: "Norman A. However, I prefer it when an artist takes a song and infuses it with so much of his/her own personality that it sounds as if he/she could have written it him/herself. Richard's take on "Cold Missouri Waters" is a perfect example. If we didn't know that James Keelaghan had written the song, we wouldn't have been far off base in assuming that Richard has written it . . . that exact thing happened to me with "Shades of Black, Shades of Blue." >> I agree. Last year I heard James open for Richard at the infamous Fez show (Ron was there as well). I liked James' performance of CMW but it doesn't compare with Richard's of James' song. Richard becomes Dodge in that song. Richard also builds intensity in CMW from verse to verse. Thanks, Vanessa. I hope you didn't miss a term paper, or a semester, or something. I really enjoyed reading about the Hip. Great stuff. As I write this, I am listening to the 'Killer Whale Tank' rant, courtesy of Lars Ulrich's nightmare. I intend to use this shareware from heaven to investigate further. I will definitely give 'Bobcaygeon' another listen. I think I got it the first time, but I want to get further into it. Bartholemoo? Marginal yet mandatory Richard content: I wrote my Earth Science term paper/book report on 'Young Men and Fire.' As an added bonus (as if the privilege of reading my stunning prose were not reward enough), I gave my professor a copy of Cry3 doing 'Cold Missouri Waters.' Another seed is planted.... Gene F. (who does not actually write stunning prose, but sure knows his way around a limerick) _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
