Hey you guys, I noticed in Musi-Cal that Richard is playing in Homer, Alaska tonight, at a venue named Alice's Champagne Palace. How great is that? I would love to hear from someone who could tell me just how much irony may have been involved in selecting the name of this place. I find it described in a fan review of a Dan Bern show as a 'pretty typical Alaskan bar.' Do we have any Homerians (Doh!) on the list? Who needs Carnegie Hall? Any tour that takes you to the Mucky Duck, the Tractor Tavern and Alice's Champagne Palace can't be all bad. Johnson" Subject: [RS] Decision 2000: SP vs SNP OK. I've decided... it was close (Iowa close not Florida close) but the best Richard Shindell CD according to me is...... SPARROW'S POINT I really, really like SOMEWHERE NEAR PATERSON but I think SP has more songs that I can play and play and play and not tire of. These are songs ("Nora", "The Courier", and "You Again") that always hit me. But ya know, I'm happy to say that "SNP" is second, easily outdistancing "Blue Divide" and then "Reunion Hill." Look, don't get me wrong, all four are probably in my all time Top 20. Since its release, "SNP" has become one of what I refer to as my "default CDs," meaning when I don't know what to grab when I'm on the go, it's one of the ones that I'm most likely to take. Meaning, to Norman's point, I'm happy to listen to it anytime, anwhere, over and over. Just for laughs, my other "default" CDs are Carter/Grammer's "When I Go," David Wilcox's "How Did You Find Me Here" and Jackson Browne's "I'm Alive." I've gotta be in the mood for most other CDs, but those four are always welcome in my car or my Walkman(tm) personal stereo. RG (C)2000 Sony Electronics Inc. All rights reserved.
