Check out the tracks "The Captain" and "Don't Talk Back". It varies between country and folk. But its not bad for an Aussie! This is not an autoreply. How was I supposed to know that list traffic over the weekend would amount to seven digests? I thought to myself, "Okay, you'll probably send one or two auto replys to your list memberships, no biggie, one or two won't make anybody angry. I doubt anybody from my lists will actually call me at home." So I live and learn. Next time I will sign off from my digest memberships, or figure out how to program the autoreply with exceptions to certain addresses, or something that won't show over and over and over and over and over and over again what a dumbhead, irresponsible list member I am. Of course, the last time I put my memberships on hold was when I went on vacation in august, and I still haven't re-signed back on to the dar-list... i must be missing some really important stuff over there... Whether my phone number gets deleted from the archives is unimportant. I am listed in the yellow pages and can easily be found by any of the least-skilled of the stalkers out there. I have faith in the inherent goodness of the members of this list that you won't wake me in the middle of the night unless it's for a good reason. thanks, Brandy Schaffels P.S. Richard was really terrific at the Mint on Sunday night. It seemed the audience was full of true and long-time fans. He even took pictures of us with his newfangled digital camera. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 14:57:20 -0500 From: Vanessa Wills Subject: Re: [RS] I return and apologize... Aww, Brandy, it's OK. :-) My question to the list is: So who all is going to be at the Dave and Tracy show this Friday in Princeton? Could you e-mail me off-list and let me know so I know who to look for? :-) Peace, Vanessa Brandy Schaffels wrote: > How was I supposed to know that list traffic over the weekend would amount to seven digests? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 16:25:14 -0500 From: Elwestrand Subject: [RS] Richard at The Mint 11/12 Had fun seeing Richard at The Mint. I was there with none other than Brandy S - web celebrity- and my buddy the Libster. Anyways, The Mint has been in LA many years and Richard described it perfectly as having a "rat pack down-on-their-luck vibe." The food was good, the place comfortable, the sound - so-so (I am becoming a stickler for good sound). The opener was a local guy named Jack Johnson. I think he needs some seasoning, but seems to be a good songwriter. The set list: Confession Old Hobo - A Peter Rowan song The Next Best Western Wisteria Arrowhead Reunion Hill Fishing Lazy You Stay Here (wood, coats, bread, guns, god) Shades of Gray By Now (would you people stop requesting this!) AYHN At this point someone requested CTM because he was with his girlfriend who loved Dar. Richard thought about that for a second, didn't seem to enthusiastic. I said, not the least bit optimistic that he would play it, "Nora." And low and behold: Nora (magic, I tell ya) and then: Calling the Moon Cold Missouri Waters Transit and Encore: Tune for Nowhere Richard was super accomodating of requests. Of course, he refuses to play You Again in Southern California - you'd think I wanted to hear "The Weather." I was very happy to hear what I felt was an a-typical set, though. Maybe there is hope for "The Weather" after all. Ok now I am off the hook concert wise till Chris Smither's in January. Now if you really want to embarass Brandy ask her to name his famous love song from the 70's! Sorry B, couldn't resist. He said, "Here's one I haven't played in a long time..." I know this is one of your favorites, E. Wow! It is amazing live. I looked at Laurel (Hi Laurel, good to see you again!) and by the look on her face, my gaping jaw must have resembled the grand canyon. What a treat. I requested By Now as a joke and then prompted him for The Weather three times, no luck. Meriann asked for CTM since it was a full moon again that night...no luck either. Someone asked for Magdelen and he said he'd get to it later but forgot. Then he said he would just keep letting us shout out until he heard the song he wanted to do. We laughed. I think he does this to see how many CA audience members know his music. Finally someone figured out that when he's in standard tuning, you need to request something like You Stay Here & Fishing, which he did. Both of them taxed his memory. At least he did "God" second to last, but he sang about Lake Michigan both choruses. He did finally talk about the Governor's mansion in Austin, TX and how he got the Secret Service to notice him. He walked around it three times dressed in black and dark glasses. He is really disappointed with the tuners on that CFox. He apologized for tuning more than he played -- an exaggeration of course. The room was a former High School lunch room and was chilly. He seemed distracted and not quite on, although his voice sounded great. They never did get the stage monitors working for him. He also didn't tell the usual jokes except the "Hey Duck" thing. Since he didn't sing about that "place in Ontario" he couldn't tell the story about his dad, he didn't explain the final verse in AYHN, etc. Oh well. I'm kinda glad he didn't meet me at Gryphon the next day to play new guitars, because it sounds like sleeping in made him feel better for the Palms and the Mint shows. OK, I am bummed because he stood me up, but that's just the stalker-fanatic in me talking, and it does feel good to be remembered every time he sees me. He'll come back to CA next year. j a c ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 14:44:49 -0800 From: "Clary, John (CLRY)" Subject: [RS] Hobo >> Old Hobo - A Peter Rowan song << Sheesh, my memory is tainted by disappointment =) He did The Hobo Song in Palo Alto too, and talked at length about how Old And In The Way saved him from the "art rock" phase that almost destroyed him. He nearly confessed to listening to ELO. Thanks to Jerry, David, Vassar, Peter & John for putting Richard on the right path. I would love to hear Richard sing Midnight Moonlight, my favorite Peter Rowan tune. And his cover of Friend Of The Devil would be nice to hear too. OAITW was my introduction to 'Grass back in the 70s and it remains one of my favorite records. You've got good taste, Richard. j a c ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 20:01:00 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] requests, CA, stalkerism, etc... << Finally someone figured out that when he's in standard tuning, you need to request something like You Stay Here & Fishing, which he did. >> Yeah, but only us guitar dweebs notice stuff like that. Which is why if you want to ever hear "May," for example, you'd best ask for it right after either "Arrowhead" or "Summer Wind, Cotton Dress," his only other songs in Open D. If you check the "Stuff to Read" section on www.richardshindell.com, it's got a full list of the tunings Richard uses for all his songs, and that will help narrow down the list of request options at any given time.
