It was at St. John's University Law School and it was $5 and only about 20 people showed up ( at least three years ago). But Hugh and Richard played on anyway and it was like a private little show. "Are You Happy Now" and Hugh's response song were definitely the high point of the show, along with both guys doing a duet on Woody Guthrie's "This Land" including all those verses the rest of us never remember. Truly Memorable. Definitely going through Shindell withdrawal here on Long Island. It looks like there are only three shows in the near future in our neck o' the woods, Feb 2 at Outpost in the Burbs, and March 16 & 17 at the Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck. I know that Richard has played this area quite a bit, and it may seem like we in the NYC area have no right to complain, but this is Richard, after all. We need our fix. For FUV listeners - this is the fall membership drive, and if you want to join or renew, one of the premiums is the City Folk Live III disc, which includes Richard's version of 'Shades of Gray' done live at the FUV studios. If you call between 6 and 10 Friday morning you might even get me on the phone (or, if you call any other time you could avoid getting me on the phone. Your decision.) We need our fix. now guys, guys, let's put this in perspective. Who are the true holders of the Richard-withdrawal record? Right, that would be the European contingent of this little group. Back me up here, Dave! :-) And no quick Richard fix to look forward to in the near future either, unless I win the lottery and fly to the States that is, which would require that I actually play the lottery... :-) Katrin, who is still happy now though ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2000 09:52:18 -0600 From: "Eley, Bill" Subject: RE: [RS] shindell withdrawal Well, in the spirit of this thread, let me announce that I'm seeing Richard *twice* next week, in Austin, and then Houston, on consecutive nights. However, let me temper this with the fact that he's only made one other appearance here, ever (as far as I know). So I've got some catching up to do. But I'll be thinking of each and every one of you. Back me up here, Dave! :-) I would be happy to, but I saw Richard in July! ;-) Dar in 11 days ... Lucy in December ... Didn't Richard *promise* you he'd be in Europe soon? Anybody know anything about Jack? Secondly, those of you who get Richard updates from Musi-cal might be concerned because it indicated that there were two Richard shows one at 7 and one at 9:30. According to The Mint, that is not the case. There is one show, door opens at 7:30, Jack at @8:30 and Richard @9:45. That is the latest info anyways. I hope all of the LA listers will be there! We have to support our people coming to our area. :-) E ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2000 13:52:41 -0500 From: Elwestrand Subject: Re: [RS] "I'm So Happy Now" ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag - ---- On Tue, 31 Oct 2000, jeff greggor (jgregg6@hotmail.com) wrote: > > As the list's number one Hugh Blumenfeld fan, > I come out of lurkdom to say that the song is > NOT officially available right now...but you can > view the lyrics at: > > http://home.earthlink.net/~h2jukebox/unrecorded.html > > > Jeff Thanks Jeff! I am soooo playing that song with those lyrics! HA! Whatever happened to the person who was writing "The Next Les Nessman?" I think I got these from this list a couple of years ago. - --Laurel I'M SO HAPPY NOW Took back my toaster when I left You make it sound like petty theft And if you'd bother to inspect You'd know the landlord has my check I'm surprised you'd even look for spices since you never cook I see you still don't make the bed It's behind your blurry head In the photograph you sent I wondered what the hell it meant If you had any scruples you would have sent back my Nikon too. But I'm so happy now I'm so happy now I'm so happy now I smashed your pumpkin on the floor But I had reason to be pissed You'd think that when your lover leaves You might look up from the TV. I took the candy as you say But you hate children anyway, And since you sit there in the dark They won't come closer than the porch, Robert says you need some help And I agree with him myself, And though you say that he's a bum He has a job and you don't, chum. And I'm so happy now... You can keep your crummy song The one you promised for so long But now it's written, I confess It's just as bad as all the rest. And I'm so happy now...
