Congrats on the guitar! Now you'll have to buy another one to keep in standard tuning! I've almost broke down and purchased the 000-15 (smaller body) on many occasions (until my girlfriend smacked me into reality). They're great guitars for the money! Enjoy playing Richard songs! It's always a happy day at home when Ron puts a new song up on his site (hint, hint!) and I get to sit down and work it out... Cheers! - -Evan PS-Ron I've worked out some Hugh stuff from Strong in Spirit, let me know if you'd like to collaborate! /********************************************** Evan A. I just brought home my brand new Martin D-15! First thing I did was tune to DADGAD and play Calling The Moon and Next Best Western. It's amazing how much better it sounds than my $150 Yamaha. I also wanted to thank all of those people who recommended Dave and Tracy, I finally bought Tanglewood Tree this weekend and it hasn't left my sight since Saturday. They will coming to Chicago (Hinsdale actually), but the same weekend that I am going to St Paul to see RS & the Nields. I will have to suffice with the live Folkstage on WFMT on 10/28 until they return. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Oct 2000 14:04:30 +0200 From: "aequalis" Subject: [RS] Guitars Hello, I bought a jumbo Taylor 415 and it does sound great too, and probably cheaper than a D15. But Evan is right, when you're playing in open tuning (Eric Taylor uses DADGAD a lot too), it is a pain in the neck to tune back to normal. All you need is another guitar. Some guys on the Townes list were just praising Lowden guitars. Are some RS tabs available somewhere? It's one of those cliche moments: If you like Richard Shindell, you'll like Eliza Gillkyson. But it's true. She live and hails from Santa Fe, her father was a folk singer and she's been around for a while. But this record is darned good and I'm enjoying it more with every repeated listen. Some of the songs may be a little "produced" for my taste, but even those have a quality (more Austin sounding than Nashville, thank God). A little Patti Griffin, a bit Sonia (Disappear Fear) a dash of Patty Larkin. Not a bad amalgam in my view. I know she's touring now and who knows, she just may open for Richard somewhere. Anyone going to see Lynn Miles at the Outpost in the Burbs next month? I've been a big fan of hers since my days living in Santa Fe, but had lost touch, I guess because of the wave of new acoustic music in the last few years. She is excellent - thanks for reminding me that I need to get that new CD. Mulvey Review Well I got to see Peter Mulvey and the Nields in LA. I have never seen Peter perform before and it was an eye-opener. Consider me converted. His playing is so incredibly percussive he is almost a drummer! I requested the "The Ocean" and he obliged. We talked about "The Ocean" afterward and he said it was one of his favorite Dar's. He also mentioned loving "The Great Unknown." He is a charmer and quite sweet too. I understand the devotion of some of his stalkers! This is the third time I have seen the Nields Sisters (no Dave's). Their vocals were just amazing this time. I am not sure why, if they have strived to improve or some such, but they were amazing. I also chatted with Nerissa about her song "One Hundred Names." I mentioned how amazing I thought it was and she confessed that it was one of her favorites too and implied that she had some spiritual help writing it. It certainly feels like that. I really do think this song is one of those that stand head and shoulders above the crowd. A stunner in my book. If you have a chance to see these performers seperately or together I highly recommend them. E P.S. Its nice and peaceful over here. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #285 ***********************************
