Well, those of you that were at the Sunday workshop at FRFF will know what I am talking about. Lucy did a cover of Cliff Everhardt's song called "Goodnight". Does anyone know if her version is recorded anywhere or if that was a one shot deal? It had to be one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, god her voice was amazing...I swear it brought tears to my eyes!!! If anyone knows please post on the list or e-mail me, thanks!! *Still in that Falcon Ridge Frame of Mind* Renee Polgar dscully73@hotmail.com ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 10:32:09 EDT From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Lucy's Cover Of "Goodnight" << Does anyone know if her version is recorded anywhere or if that was a one shot deal? >> It's actually the last song on her debut CD, "The Tide." But there's also an INCREDIBLE live version on an old Fast Folk album, where she swaps verses with Shawn Colvin. Classic stuff. I told him about the Shindell-list and that we were talking him up there, trying to "convert" all the Richard fans! He was suprised that I (or anyone) knew songs from his first album, yet alone all the words, after I quoted some lines from 'When I Go'." Glad to hear you folks across the water had a good time at FR. In the quote above, I assume that I'm correctly interpreting the words of the language that we share, since there appears to be an assumption that Dave's first album was "When I Go." The first Dave & Tracy album was "When I Go." The second is the astounding [and my "already" album of 2000] - "Tanglewood Tree." To the best of my understanding Dave has no copies of his, self released, 1995 solo debut, "Snake Handlin' Man" available, but a couple of months ago those lovely folks at www.songs.com in Nashville did have a handful [left]. That's where Dave directed me and they came up trumps. Dave tries to keep the album a secret, since he feels that it "was an earlier and more innocent time, studiowise." The songs are still as well written and powerful....and that's what matters. It has always been for the sake of the song. It features the original versions of "Cowboy Singer" and "The River, Where She Sleeps." Nothing will prepare you however for the magical cut 9 - "Workin' For Jesus" - a song that Dave intends re-recording. In addition, - and while we wait for Signature Sounds to release "D&T Live @ Falcon Ridge 2000" - how about it Jim Olsen ?????- if you're looking for a taste of D& T live in concert, point yourself toward Minnesota and the Red House label. Once there, go to the Greg Brown catalogue and order a copy of "Solid Heart - The In Harmony Concert." Not only will you be helping a great charity, but you'll get two D&T cuts - "Don't Tread On Me" & "When I Go." The duo also harmonise with Greg on the opener "Build A Little Village." I've never been the world's greatest salesman, but the latest issue of my magazine - "Kerrville Kronikle" is tantamount to 32 pages of D&T [almost their complete history] cover to cover, the result of a 3 hour telephone call to Portland, Oregon this spring. It also features reviews of all the albums mentioned above. Anyone interested in obtaining a copy - for cash, that is, 'cos it's been a 12 year trip trying to keep the boat afloat - can contact me off-line. My E address is bound to be attached to this posting somewhere. And just in case you feel that this posting is totally off-subject, and that I haven't mentioned Ricardo. Issue #25 of the Kronikle featured, across 12 pages, my 1996 Kerrville interview with the man. And yes, copies are still available. How do you sell a love affair. If only I had the answer....Well, I suppose it wouldn't be a love affair then !!! Heard recently [and for the first time], 'cos of a review that I had to write for a forthcoming issue of Folk Roots - Peter Mayer's 4th and latest album "Million Year Mind" is to be recommended to anyone who adores listening to RS. The same, but totally different if you understand me. This man has put together an album of 11 stunning songs. Point to www.blueboat.net or www.peppermintcds.com for details. End of commercial. Anyone read this posting, this far ????? I'm exhausted. Arthur Wood. The NY Daily News reports that, spotted in the front row and backstage at Tuesday's NSync concert at Madison Square Garden was none other than Keith Richards. He made some lame excuse about bringing one of his kids (or grandchildren maybe) but this can't be a good sign. Indulgent parent or secret boy band groupie? You decide. He also said that next time him and Tracy go into the studio, they will record some songs from that album. If Signature Sounds released a live Dave and Tracy set, I'd be pretty darn excited! Wow, they may have to release a double album, since Dave said at FRFF that he'd written something like fifteen songs since Tanglewood tree came out, but he and Tracy hadn't had a chance to work them up. I'm sure the songs have a special place in Dave's heart, and it would be great to hear Dave and Tracy do material like this with their added experience and confidence. I somehow got away from FRFF without buying Tanglewood Tree, (spent all my loose change on Fruvous and EFO discs) but I got back and played the Signature Sounds Sampler, and had to order it. It was, actually, on sale for $10 at the Signature Sounds site. Sorry, I don't know for how long.
