I'd prefer something really simple. Nothing on the back and keep the design to 4" max on the left chest including the text. I suppose the tire irons crossed over the fleur-de-lis could end up looking like golf clubs and I'm not going to wear a t-shirt that looks like country club casual wear from 10 feet away. I'm not so concerned with outsiders not understanding though. I mean, this whole idea is for insider ID anyway -- like a secret handshake from across a crowded coffee house, right? j a c ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 10:52:37 -0500 From: "Clary, John (CLRY)" Subject: RE: [RS] T-shirt - My two cents I typed: >>I'm not so concerned with outsiders not understanding though. I mean, this whole idea is for insider ID anyway -- like a secret handshake from across a crowded coffee house, right?<< For the record, I still wouldn't wear this to a Richard show even if it didn't mention his name anywhere on it. So I suppose unless you're catching me play at some po-dunk California pub, none of you are going to see this shirt on me anyway. j a c ps 5 more days to my first Richard show and counting. By July 16 I will have seen him 5 times. I'm only missing one of his dates next week. Does this get me on the Shindell Stalker list? I have a good mental health benefit. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 12:24:10 -0400 From: Kerry Bernard Subject: [RS] Peter Mulvey on Acoustic Cafe [Also posting to the Richard list because it's relevant for you guys, too!] Hey guys, We have an airdate for the segment Peter taped recently for Acoustic Cafe. According to the website, it'll be syndicated on your local stations the week of July 24. Visit www.acafe.com for more info (find out where you can hear it, etc). You can hear performances from a whole bunch of past guests there, too (Richard Shindell, Aimee Mann, Bruce Cockburn, Cry Cry Cry, John Gorka, Cowboy Junkies, Indigo Girls and a *whack* of others). Also, speaking of "Peter's", this week's episode features Peter Case, a *very* cool musician whom I joke is 1/3 Peter Mulvey, 1/3 Richard Shindell, 1/3 Chris Smither; he's got Peter's funky guitar stylings, Richard's literate songwriting and somewhat nasal vocal quality (I mean that in a good way!), and Chris's rootsy sound. I saw him play with Chris recently and really dug him. I'm listening to the segment online right now (there's a link right on the Acoustic Cafe website). My goodness the 'net is amazing sometimes. Scanning the archives I saw the names of a few folks I know from the dar-list. (Hi to katie, RockinRonD, sharong and any others out there lurking.) My name is Peter. I'm 36, married and live just ouside the town of Sebastopol, CA, north of San Francisco. I am currently in the process of switching my line of work in human services to computer graphics and web page design, which means I'm job hunting, seeking private clients and working on an hourly rate at my old job until they fill the position. It also means I get to watch Star Trek every afternoon for at least a couple of weeks :-). I have no children, but find my need to nurture and be responsible for other beings fulfilled by my two dogs and my two cats. I first saw Richard in 1997 when he was touring with Dar, and then again in 1999 with Cry, Cry Cry. I've owned Blue Divide for quite some time now and recently purchased Somewhere Near Paterson and Reunion Hill, both of which I love. I'm looking forward to seeing Richard again this month, right here in my tiny little burg (yeah, it's a little slow here in Sebastopol). He is also playing a free show in Palo Alto, as many of you probably already know, on July 11 at Johnson Park. I'm assuming that this is an outdoor show. Is anyone familiar with this venue? Would it be appropriate to show up with my dogs? They love Richard's music. Peter PS. Katie, don't worry about the grape popsicles. If the weather continues the way it's been around here, they should be selling hot drinks and warm baked goods! Also, is KRCB going to be interviewing Richard before the show? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 14:16:33 -0700 From: "Clary, John (CLRY)" Subject: RE: [RS] howdy Hi Peter! It is a neighborhood park with a gazebo or some sort of raised stage thingy. I asked about parking and she said find a spot that's not blocking a drive way. Sounds like an adventure! I assume that PA has a leash law. I know that's hard for Sonoma County residents to comprehend =) My Brother used to live in Grayton, not that's a slow town. Anyway, your dogs are welcome on my blanket. Oh, she also said that beach chairs are OK -- the short variety only. I expect the weather in PA to be bordering on fog. Email me off-line and perhaps we can stake a bigger claim on the lawn. I plan on getting there for lunch. It's an 8 p.m. show but we're going to make a day of it. >>Also, is KRCB going to be interviewing Richard before the show? << Kerry gave us these a few days ago, but you know that Katie will finagle some sort of backstage photo shoot if not an impromptu interview even if KRCB doesn't get him on the air that day: Wednesday, July 12 - 11:20 a.m. (Pacific) KAZU 90.3 FM Pacific Grove, CA www.kazu.org (You can listen online) Thursday, July 13 - 2:30 p.m. (Pacific) KTHX 100.1 FM Reno, NV www.thex.net (Website under construction, so no webcast) - -- j a c ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 19:01:16 -0400 From: Vanessa Wills Subject: [RS] t-shirts Just a reminder to be friendly to the nice people at Young/Hunter who are trying to accomodate the tastes of however many people are on this list. Ok, here is my question: what is meant by the Northern Cross and the Southern Cross? I keep hearing these images in lyrics but it doesn't mean anything to me. I have guessed that maybe the Southern Cross is the Confederate Flag, but if so what is the Northern Cross? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. E PS. Thanks for all your Gorka suggestions. I have purchased Land of the Bottom Line and after only one listen am confident it was a good choice. I look forward to more listening. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #148 ***********************************
