For me, it was the highest part of the three day Festival. However, I just got an advance of their new CD "Evolver" and I'm having a difficult time finding anything I really like on it or can even listen to. That "campy" aspect is very much present and, for me, anyway, it's kind of a turn-off. Little doubt that these two are hugely talented, but the new record hardly showcases that talent in the best light. Too bad. I am really enjoying being a part of this great list! I play guitar and would love to know if anyone knows of any songbooks available of Richard's music. I would definitely like to learn to play some of his material. Also, if anyone knows if Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky have songbooks and where I could find them I would be very grateful for the info. Thanks!!!! From there you can link to RG's page of chords and my page of tabs. That should give you a good start on learning Rich's music. - -----Original Message----- From: Batgirl of the Night [mailto:dscully73@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 23, 2000 10:40 AM To: shindell-list@smoe.org Subject: [RS] Richard Songbooks? First, opening for Richard, them alone, and opening for the Nields. The latter two were part of the "Evolver Tour." They are extremely talented guitarists and put on a very fun show. I don't believe this Evolver CD and tour with its "psychadelia" shades is now the only type of music they intend to compose and perform, it's just another facet of their work. Sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to Richard, and sometimes the Kennedys. Although "Somewhere Near Paterson" IS in permanent rotation in my briefcase (driving tapes) - I love that album!! Subject: [RS] Lister Teeshirt Dear Richard-listers, Great to see the list so active, and to see that so many of you have made it out/will be making it out to shows. I saw that someone said that without a lister teeshirt, it's hard to spot fellow listers. Well, that sets my little mind to work. Here's the scoop: Let's do a Richard-list shirt. It'll be available ONLY via the Richard-list. I hereby announce a contest: post to the list your suggestions for what should actually BE on the shirt by May 29. Katie Mahoney will keep track of all the suggestions. On May 30 we'll tabulate the suggestions, choose two or three and then have a final vote. On June 3 or so I'll send the design in to the teeshirt printer. We'll start taking mailorders then, and we'll get the shirts back in time to send out for the late June tourdates. I'll keep the shirt price reasonable - $15 each, 2 for $25. We'll use a really good-quality shirt, and money raised beyond expenses will be donated to a charity of Richard's choice. How's that sound? So -- what goes on the shirt??? We need your answers by May 29!! Contest winner gets - of course - a free shirt (and maybe some other stuff). - -- Charlie Manager, teeshirt person ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 14:30:01 -0400 From: Jeff Bernstein Subject: [RS] Richard on WFUV This was just posted on the WFUV web site: >SUNDAY, JUNE 4 > 8-11 AM, City Folk Sunday Breakfast: The music of Fred Neil and The >Nields. Don't get me wrong I love every molecule of what he does now, but I adore Spanish guitar work. And If I got my Richard and my Spanish guitar in one place. Sigh. What if he did a tango? Doubleswoon! I think I might actually expire from such a thing! ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 13:29:03 -0700 From: "Brandy Schaffels" Subject: [RS] I live in San Fernando too Hi Elwestrand and others who asked about listers in socal. I'm anticipating doing twenty minutes of mostly original material before Mary takes the stage. My friend, Brett Hartenbach, is planning on accompanying me on guitar -- he alone is worth the price of admission. If you need directions, feel free to send me a note. If you'd like more info on the Creole and its upcoming performances or art exhibits, visit their website at http://lansing.com/creolegallery. Or e-mail mailto:creolegallery@aol.com. Hope to see you. I hope that's the best way to do it. I did up a simple, two-color, blocky guitar thingy with some text variations and my idea is to put the 4" screen on the right chest of a black shirt (so your guitar strap won't hide it =) Of course it could be enlarged and put on the back just as easily. BTW, Charlie, I signed each one but please DON'T think I want that to appear on the shirt if my design wins. I just wanted you to be able to ID them. (I was also thinking of spoofing the existing Are you happy now tee with Are you happy Cow, but as some people don't like that joke, it may not be a good idea.) Or how about St. Agnes' Choir shirt, maybe with "tour" dates for the prisions around Northern NJ. Hey, I never said my ideas were GOOD! Candy ps I'd like to throw out the suggestion that the shirts be in L / XL / XXL sizes. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #80 **********************************
