So Richard will probably come on just before 8 and leave just after 9. Hour and fifteen minutes or so. Does anyone recall the very funny comments Vance Gilbert made during his February IH show about the blues group that would follow him? Something about drunk blues fans. But the message is about as relevant for RS-list as Dar-list, if not more so. So, I'll post it here. *************************** Helen (on Dar-list) said: >>Actually, sometimes Dar really reminds me of Don McClean. I really only know one album of his, American Pie, but some of the softer, melancholy songs on that album (all titles escape me) really remind me of her, and vice versa, both in the sounds of the guitar and the wordiness of the lyrics. >> Actually, Richard Shindell-- more so than Dar-- reminds me of Don McLean. There's a great interview with Don McLean (from 1991) being incredibly cagey about what "American Pie" means at http://www.don-mclean.com/. He also talks about the reception he had the first time he played AP in concert. The best line is "So when people ask me what "American Pie' means, I tell them it means I don't ever have to work again if I don't want to." Other than AP, my favorite Don McLean song (which I don't think I've ever heard on the radio) is "Madgalene Lane".
