Maybe it's a product of having grown up largely in the 80's but every time someone mentions that song, I hear soundbites of Def Leppard's "Love Bites" in my head... AND, coincidentally enough, I'm just now starting to *not* think of the ALBUM that come from, Hysteria, every time someone mentioned "Wisteria"... Pour some sugar on me, Kerry :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 09:41:15 PDT From: "jeff greggor" Subject: [RS] Love Hurts...in the Springtime << Love Hurts by Hugh Blumenfeld >> >>>>Hugh Blumenfeld WISHES he wrote "Love Hurts." Maybe the song they actually performed was "Let Me Fall In LOVE Before It HURTS". Lucy of course did sing on "that" song! I just added myself to your list....to get psyched for the summer, mainly, but also in anticipation of an intimate show w/ Richard coming up in just under four weeks. I'm fairly active on both the Dar and Lucika lists, but that's about it. I just saw on one of those other lists that Richard will not only have a band on three occasions between now and then, but that Jess Klein will be warming up for him also on occasion. Right now I am trying to get some newcomer friends pumped up about seeing Richard solo in that intimate environment in four weeks. (I've seen him only as part of Cry Cry Cry.) I made a comprehensive 120 minute cassette to introduce them to Richard's music. My goal is for them to buy their own darn tickets before it sells out so I don't have to hold more than the four I already have. They've already sold probably 60 of the 80 available. If you've ever given a good listen to his work, you'll agree that several songs benefit heavily from female back-up vocals. In fact, about half of all the songs on both RS's two most recent albums have such parts--some are even duets. Almost all are arranged with Dar Williams and/or Lucika Plansky Now I see that Jess is opening for Richard for four shows in the Midwest. I'll be seeing show #3. To your knowledge has Jess ever worked with Richard before and might she be adding her vocals for some of his set? Inquiring minds want to know! Of course we're looking forward to hearing Jess's solo set as well! (I've already been introduced to her voice via the RESPOND CD.) Thanks for sharing anything you know! Jess Klein opened for Richard at the Palms in Davis, CA and, I believe, at the Freight in Berkeley. She did not join in Richard's set at the Palms. - --lee ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 22:02:53 EDT From: Radnj@aol.com Subject: [RS] Louise's new CD now avail.. Ron sez: " Some day the world will indeed catch on to Louise's very special talent. But for serious, discerning music lovers such as those on this list, may I suggest that you discover her for yourselves post haste. Like most real art of substance, Louise takes more than a casual listen to appreciate. All the subtle details, rich idiosyncracies in her work begin to reveal themselves with each repeated listen, not unlike a great vintage claret. Kudos to Jim Olsen for bringing this wonderful woman to us." Louise Tayor's new CD "Written in Red" is now avail. on Signature Sounds web site for those who just can't wait for it to hit the stores (like me)!! Ron has suberb taste!! *************************************************************************** Signature Sounds is proud announce that Written In Red, the stunning new album from Louise Taylor is now on sale at our web site: http://www.signature-sounds.com Those familiar with Louise's work know that her 1997 album RIDE was a masterpiece. If awards were given out for smoldering sensuality in the music of a female singer-songwriter, Louise Taylor would have a mantleful. The narratives on Written In Red are rich with the emotional intensity of full-grown womanhood--and Taylor delivers them with all of the keen insight, worldly wisdom and survivor pride that implies. Combining poetic sophistication with a husky, powerful voice that thrives on bluesy nuance, a deft mastery of the acoustic guitar and a commanding presence, Louise Taylor offers listeners a compelling image of a unique modern troubadour. The album reflects Taylor's continued openness to new cultural influences, drawing on impressions from three tours of Ireland. Written in Red is embellished by contributions from guest artists including flutist Joannie Madden of the Celtic band Cherish the Ladies and bluesman Ray Bonneville. The album won't be in stores until the second week of May, but it's available at our web site now. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #42 **********************************
