Myers/Dar/'98 and Tampa/Cry Cry Cry/'99) but unfortunately, the timing was not right for a 4 1/2 hour (each way) Florida-coast-to-coast musical venture this time around... As a consolation prize, we did have Small Potatoes and Jack Williams at house concerts here in lil ole Pembroke Pines on Friday and Saturday evenings, respectively, so all was not lost... Nevertheless, I'd love to hear more about Richard's show there - I love Erica Wheeler and was under the impression she was the opening act... :-) Enquiring minds and all that... - tell it, tell it, please! Johnson" Subject: [RS] Lucy Kaplansky/ Carrie Newcomer I just saw a wonderful double bill of Carrie Newcomer and Richard's fellow crier, Lucy K. The sound at the Iron Horse is usually excellent but today it was even better. In fact, the only thing that could have made this show better was more Carrie and more Lucy.. they each had 50-55 min. sets. Carrie Newcomer has a few new songs and will be releasing a new CD in August. She also played "old" favorities, including "Sparrow" (one of my favorites), "Moon over Tucson", and "Bare to the Bone". She has an amazing voice. Lucy was really on-- very dynamic. She really did sing "Ten Year Night" and that was one of the highlights of the show. I like the version of 10Y Night on the CD and the other times I've seen her do it live but it wasn't one of my favorites. This time she really nailed it... I can't explain it, it was transcendental. She also did "The Tide" (much slower than on the CD) and "Scorpion". She played a song (I think it is called "Role Model") that she has not played in many years, calling it the prequel to her triology of angry, saracastic songs like "The Thief". While she received many requests, she had time for only one encore.. and honored the request of a little girl in the audience. It was "By Way of Sorrow". She mentioned how much she liked being in Cry3, saying that it was like summer camp with the counselors.
