Complete with nude picture, just kidding about the picture, but a great read about the song that Richard Shindell wrote. With dialogue during the song, about his girlfriend at the time. Lucy on Mandolin. I have read the book, Young Men And Fire by Norman McClean. They have just finished singing Cathedrals as dialogue is about the Historic Synagogue. Herebs my summary for the RS Facebook group of the recent show in Rutland, Vt. Nearly 20 years later I finally caught Cry3, last night in Rutland, VT. Maybe the tenth time Ibve seen Richard or Richard and Lucy; first time Ibve seen Dar. Great show. Dar said lots of nice things about Vermont and was her somewhat rambling but charming self. Lucy very solid as always. And that guy Shindell sure can pick and sing.B The venue was the venerable Paramount Theater and the sound was excellent. bA great room,b as Lucy put it. I failed at keeping a set list but here are some impressions: The Kid, opener. Bad choice IMO, too slow (and not a personal favorite anyway).B I Know Why the River Runs b Nice. Julie Miller song? Ghost in You b A Psychedelic Furs song, of all things. Fun intro by Richard and a great rendition. Someone posted a link on this group that will get you to a recording of it. Worth tracking it down. Memphis, with praise for Cliff Eberhardt Cathedrals b Not a high point for me. Mary Magdalen b Outstanding version by Dar. Chills. Cold Missouri Water b More chills. The three of them (for this and a couple other songs) at one mic. Mostly a Richard solo with some of his shining guitar work and harmonies from Dar and Lucy. Musical magic, the kind that makes life worth living.B Are You Happy Now? b I was. Iowa b Dar singalong. Something to Get Through bnice Dar song about surviving divorce. Lucy songs Ten Year Night (really nice version of this classic) and Reunion. I actually like her solo version of the latter better than with Cry3 but YMMV. By Way of Sorrow. This should have been the opener. Satellites b Incredible guitar playing by Richard on electric. Never thought the song would work in this setting but it was a high point. Encore b Auld Lang Syne, with that haunting melody Richard said he got from the Tannahill Weavers. And oh, those harmonies... Richard played a lot of sweet, mellow electric, plenty of 12-string (I think it was one of those newish, small Taylor 12bs), and a dreadnought (Martin?).B No on-stage mention of an album. But they damn sure better do one. My advice: Beg, steal or borrow, but whatever you do, go see them! - - Greg802-462-3280Cell b 802-989-4115Twitter: @greengregdennis On Monday, April 9, 2018, 6:52 AM, Michael Marmer wrote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdfS0zt_my8 Last night we attended a long awaited concert for the reunion of Cry Cry Cry at Sixth & I (Historic Synagogue. The building was built in 1908, as its not too far from Capital One Arena, where basketball and hockey is played. And its in China Town. As a food sales person, this area was a dump, really awful, as its very well built up now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixth_%26_I_Historic_Synagogue They did 17 songs, as I have the set list, as we passed one of the soundboards on the way out and I was going to take a picture of it, and the guy said I could take it. Overall, a really great concert, they played 1 hour and 45 minutes. I don't think they have enough new material, of covers, for a new CD as of now.B Maybe sometime soon. I the way home, we did get to listen to the Washington Nationals baseball game, as they where losing, but tied it up.B We did not hear the end, as the Nats lost 6-5 in the 12th.B We have our first Nats game on May 6, as the temps had to be in the 30s! Most of you know that Cry Cry Cry was taken from a Johnny Cash song.B He wrote a song Hey Porter, as his manager said he could do better, so he went home and wrote Cry Cry Cry that night, as it was the B side of a the single for Hey Porter. My description from the video: The reunion of Dar Williams, Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky. They move out to the front of the stage with microphone that Richard ordered some time ago.B Dar talks about how they got the microphone.B They sing Cathedrals written byB Jay Clifford of Jump Little Children, 2000.B The venue was at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, as the building was built in 1908.
