Richard's tour schedule over the years has been limited its seems, so I am very lucky that he comes to JJ ever November. He did say in the concert that JJ is one of his favorite venues. Along with Club Passim in Cambridge, MA, where he has played 3 nights in a row, many times. The place last night was packed, as it probably seats 200 plus. He was solo last night, as sometimes he has Marc Schulman, as I might have his last name wrong, on electric guitar, who is amazing himself. And sometimes Joe B on percussion. He played a straight set and then with his 2 song encore, the concert was almost 2 hours. He started out with many songs from the new CD, which we have heard over the years, since he kept promising at each concert, the CD will be out soon. Well, its been out now for a year, another good CD from Richard. He did do many of his classics, as I have posted many videos of Richard from Jammin Java and the one concert he did in Washington, DC. at Gyspy Sally's and every time you see Richard in concert, its almost different, a pleasant night of watching and listening to Richard. I have just posted my fifth rendition on YouTube of Richard singing Transit, as this time, he is using a acoustic guitar, as he adds some Spanish type of guitar playing to the song, as he is not using a Spanish Guitar. At the end of the song, he tells, the story on how he had the melody for this song, no story yet, and he came up with a Ferry boat captain, who takes the ferry out to sea. So he could not come up with a way to end the song, as one time he told the story, he said, would he put in the song, all aboard the ship die? No........ Reunion Hill was done on Bouzouki as he mentions how he wrote the song for Joan Baez, which most of know, for her to put on a CD. But he tells on how he got the beginning riff, for the song, which could not be done on he Bouzouki and he got from a Prince song. He sang Nora, Kenworth of my Dreams, as some of the older songs. With the new material, he could not get deep into his catalog, as there request for songs, like Fishing, Wisteria (A big favorite, that I do have on a older concert on YouTube, about a home he once owned and the new owners are fans of his, as he did go to the door, outside of the song) But the encore, was 2 songs and of course, he did, Are You Happy Now, which I first heard on Christine Lavin's CD, she was involved in getting made, When October Goes. That got many of us hooked on Shindell. But he messed up the opening verse, forgot the lines, as the audience, as usual, in these situations, helped him out, as it was neat to see in a way. He was not upset at all, he was having a lot of fun, on stage all night and even more with this mess up. And it turned into a Richard Shindell Sing A Long, which is something you do not see or hear at Shindell concert, especially on the chorus. And that actually added more to the mess up and song. And then the second verse, he needed more help. Very unusual of Richard, but it was really a fun time for him and the audience. Richard is just something, no matter what happens in a song, as only once have I seen Richard forget a line and that was on Wichita, by Gillian Welch, as he said he did not want to see this on YouTube. Well, it is. And I told him the next year it was. He did get upset in a way. Oh well, I think again, it was fine, that he messed up on a song. It made it memorable, I should of told him. But due to the sing a long, during the song, he told of a story of a concert he did the day after the election of 2016, how the people where kind of down on the result, and they just needed to sing out with Richard to get it out of their system, as that was a neat story. As Are You Happy Now was the ending song, he got a standing ovation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2qVixiUPlI&feature=youtu.be Okay, I have the song posted on YouTube, as he laughs while finishing the verse, he was having a great time with a great song. So this was concert number 4 for November, as it started out with David Mallett, , then Bruce Cockburn, and The Steel Wheels, as I have video of all on YouTube. We had tickets for Rodney Crowell but the show was cancel due to illness, as I know he had some back surgery last spring, as I know about back surgery, having 3, the last was a fusion, not fun. So I thought our concerts where done till January, when we see Lucy Kaplansky, but Joe Henry and Rose Cousins are at Jammin Java, and we got tickets to see them next week, will be a big crowd. Oh, Richard did say that Cry, Cry, Cry who have been touring a bit this year, as I stole Richard's picture of them from his website, below, will be touring a lot in 2018. He did sing a song, that they have been working on in the concert. A new CD in the works? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T87u5yuUVi8 The song they have been singing by the Pyschedelic Furs, Ghost in You, as he did a really nice version of the song.
