If anyone watched any of the shows on Concert Window, as I watched all three, as every concert is different, as the play list was about the same, but the stories, Joe was different on each song, you could tell Richard was not happy about not having the new CD out by now. But we do not know the whole story on why it taking so long, as again, I stated before the many reasons why it could be, as I can relate to those reasons, leaving work for good in 1999 at age 44, being very successful in food distribution sales to restaurants, due to three back surgeries. And I can tell you stories about the restaurant trade that would make you want to never go back to a eating place. But anyway, a lot of things happen in life, we move on and it all works out in the end. (And no two restaurants pay the same price for the same products). Laurence, I have no issues with you bitching, O:)!, as I completely understand. I am not defending anything, but just trying to keep a open mind to why, it might be so, since I have been there before. Life is not a easy road all the time. I think there's a balance though. Most artists have a new disc every 2 years. By my count, he's released 7 albums (and I'm including South of Delia - which I love with all my heart, but it's a cover album. Again, I'm included it.) So, somewhat over 3 years. More if you remove South of Delia. Whatever. Clearly, just bitching. I love the guy and simply want to hear more of his stuff. Off to the show tonight! Anyone going? And for those who do not get to see Richard tour in person, Concert Window is a great way of seeing him via the internet. I have seen many shows for artist I follow, from one coast to the other coast. He said he had the melody written for about two years, before he got the words done. He said originally it was to be about a ship captain for a ferry boat, like the ones in Maine, as Portland had some Ferry Service, Bar Harbor ferry service to Nova Scotia, closed a few years ago. Anyway the boat Captain was going to take the ship out to sea, with all the passengers on it. He had no idea how to end the song. Does the boat sink, does a SWAT team come into the song, he just was stumped on how to end it, so he came up with a new story for the melody. I think he did a good job with it, in the end, as this is one of signature songs. A nice little sing around with other artist like John Prine. So, I thought I would share his words about being a singer for a living and this song. I think Richard, since he does covers, is probably trying to get this song recorded without him cracking up, for the new CD So now you know why it is being delay. And even Linda laughed at this song. All, It has been about 5 years since I have dropped in on this list. From reading the last few weeks posts it looks to me like very little has changed. Richard still..... still doesn't tour in the Western United States. Members still take unprovoked leftist jabs with impunity at we "benighted souls" who have different views about the responsibilities of the state. Not having heard the new song Atlas Choking since I live in Oregon and am therefore a second class citizen geographically speaking in the State of Shindell, I have to assume Richard's writing has continued to drift further towards Havana given the rear ending passions it has provoked. I believe I've been left behind having exited right off the turnpike somewhere near Patterson in early 2001, a weekend militia man happily failing to progress with the hoard. I love Richard's songs and respect his talent, and in the past I have appreciated many insights shared here and also have offered up many of my own. But frankly I can't see what is in this list for me anymore. Perhaps I am wrong, but it just doesn't seem very.... inclusive. I missed all three shoes this week bummer. I think Michaels analogy to Neils acoustic vs. electric is apt. While Richard doesnt have anywhere near the propensity to rock out that Crazy Horse does, his songs are changed by the electric stylings. I have to agree with most of the posters that I usually prefer the acoustic presentation. However, a few songs with full band seem to come alive: Che Guevara T-Shirt, Arrowhead, Fishing, off the top of my head. But Ive heard Fishing change dramatically over the years, even in its acoustic permutations. I also choose to respect the mans artistry and take the music when it comes. Id love to get the record today even an early release of a cut or two, huh amigo? But sometimes the wait is worth it. Always has been for me.
