It was not the most poetic prose, but the story was interesting." Read it shortly after hearing the Cry3 version of CMW back in '98. That song is the highlight of the album. The book was a couple of books, really. First, the narrative of the fire. Second, MacLean's detective work tracking down what happened. Norman, not MacLean. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Feb 2013 00:05:48 -0500 (EST) From: ozwoman321@aol.com Subject: [RS] Company of Friends (Danny Schmidt) - no RS content Jim C wrote: << Subject: [RS] Oh, Danny boy... Noticed the "sign off" on Susan's e-mail. God bless anyone with the imaculate taste to quote Danny Schmidt, one of the few singer songwriters whom I feel also deserves the title "poet." And ya picked a personal favorite song to quote from, btw. Even if I'll never be able to play it on the radio. Although admittedly, the studio take on "Beggars and Mules" does not move me like Danny doing it solo or with Carrie Elkin>> Oh, do not get me started on Danny Schmidt! - whoops, too late... :-) Andrew Calhoun is my musical E.F. Hutton - having recommended to me in the past Jonathan Byrd and Anais Mitchell... well, when AC speaks, I listen. At the 2005 Falcon Ridge, he handed me Danny's Parables & Primes and asked me to let him know what I thought. I couldn't wait to get home - is there a record for repeat plays: kitchen boombox, car CD player, bedroom 5-disc carousel? I went immediately to Danny's website to find out more about him - normally, bios hyperbolic... but, in his case, I truly believe the comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt and Dave Carter to be spot on. As Jim says, Danny is a poet - start with Stained Glass (on P&P), then work your way through his entire stunning catalog... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_xg62QK0UE lyrics here: http://www.dannyschmidt.com/lyr_stainedglass.html I have been blessed to host Danny in a house concert, as well as present him (both solo and with Carrie) at the concert series I present in Ft. Lauderdale (they're returning in February 2014) - he never lets me be merchwoman anymore because he sells out of Parables & Primes (hey, a woman never forgets her first love... :-) Susan www.labyrinthcafe.com www.facebook.com/labyrinth.cafe.concerts www.browardfolkclub.com www.gotfolk.com "god bless the sound of music, god bless the golden rule..." ~ Danny Schmidt ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Feb 2013 23:12:26 -0800 From: Christine Thomas Subject: Re: [RS] Canadian artists Do you know about the CBC music streaming site?
