I picked "Last Fare" in spite of the CD version, picked "Whippoorwill" from a pre-Vuelta radio show version, YEAH! Me too. I just thought in his radio interviews when it was shiny and new, that song was so poignant. The studio version just diluted the emotion there, to my ears. will be picking "May" next round (yeah, the matchups are already set, so I know what it's up against) off the original Fast Folk recording, WOO HOO! I say we dedicate it to Lee Wessman. and will likely be picking "Reunion Hill" (depending on what song it faces in the round of 32) in spite of the Royal Canadian Fife & Drum Orchestra version on the CD. Oh yes... the gentle, understated hand of Larry Campbell. Amazing musician, but damn... gimme Greg Anderson on the board any day. The very first time I ever heard that song was the slightly slower (but not yet slowest tempo) live solo version, and I was mesmerized. The CD showed up a few days later in the mail and I was like, "is there a song under all that?" (Course, then I heard Joan do it and thought, "eh, Larry's sounding a little better now...) To this day, one of two songs I tend to bring in during songwriting workshops to demonstrate what I consider to be a nearly perfectly written song. - -Jim C ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #311 ************************************
