I'm a pacifist of the first order. I do not own any guns nor do I intend
to.  I lost the love of my life (next to my husband and daughter) due to
gun violence.

That said, there's a reason guns are in the title of "Germs, Guns and
Steel" ~ a novel on how Americans and Western Europeans came out on top and
became "first world" countries.

You might have never owned a gun, but you're probably emailing this right
now because a distant ancestor of yours was really handy with a rock or a
nice club.

That opposable thumb has always come in really handy with some kind of
weapon.

Should we have evolved beyond this??  Probably.   But that is another
argument from what Chris put out.
