There are way too many other songs one could use. Don't get me wrong, most all 9th graders could "handle" the song, it's just that you may not want to introduce it. How about something they are listening to? All these kid pop songs are done in minor keys now. You could choose a Shindell song and go through your lessons, then assign the students to write about a song of their choice...(be careful - lots of heavy stuff out there, especially with the boys and all the metal genres). You may want to read the lyrics first. Appropriate Censorship. As for Crooked Darrylls, Darryl Purpose sings "A Crooked Line".
