The assumption is they are looking for one of their children, but it would have to be a child of working age since they would have been at the WTC. They didn't bring their car into the city because driving in lower Manhattan was nearly impossible in the week after 9/11. - - The second couple is younger, this is probably their first child since they are so amazed (not that the second child isn't also amazing, but you know what I mean), and they live in the city. Nobody would take a cab to bring their newborn back home to New Jersey, they would drive in with their own car. A young couple living in the city would probably not own a car, and though they probably take the subway to get around they would have taken a cab for the trip home from the hospital. Richard has also said in interviews that it is two different couples. However, I respect the fact that people find their own meaning in songs and interpret lyrics differently. I approached this song looking at specific practical considerations based on my experience in and around NYC in the days following 9/11 as well as my familiarity with NYC after living nearby all my life. Meanwhile, I need to go listen to "By Now". I have not listened to Sparrow's Point in years and that song never caught my attention until the recent discussion here. John PS - How do we switch back to digest mode for this discussion list? I get every email immediately but I used to get just one collection per day. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #180 ************************************
