Also, I want to buy the hard copy, but I don't want to wait to get it. Doesn't seem to be a "free digital download" with each hard copy purchase. Here's what my pal Jim Olsen (at Signature Sounds) has to say about it: On 13 Songs You May Or May Not Have Heard Before Richard Shindell revisits some of his best known songs with a fresh eye and new arrangements, stripping the songs down to their basic framework and rebuilding them with a more intimate feel. This new approach puts the emphasis on Shindell's stunning acoustic guitar work and expressive storytelling, with subtle instrumental support from long-time Shindell collaborators Larry Campbell, Lincoln Schleifer, Marc Shulman, Sara Milonovich, Viktor Krauss and others. This collection includes one new song called Satellites as well as songs from throughout his 20-plus year career. FYI, a second installment of similarly re-recorded tunes will be available in the first half of 2012. Finally, three pre-sabbatical shows have been added in early January. Pierre in PA P.S. We miss out on a lot of shows 'round here -- though, with the arrival of Stage AE last year (2,000 indoors/5,000 outdoors) and the Consol Center (18,000), we were told that some of the "skippers" of the past would now be attracted to the 'burgh...True enough, as Stage AE featured Lucinda, MMJ, Death Cab, and the usual suspects of Styx, Skynyrd, and Elvis (or maybe that was an impersonator)... ....point is, given all the bands that go from Philly or D.C. to the unholy Cleveland, I'm NOT apologizing for being one of the few people who'll enjoy the elan of Senor Shindell before his purported break o' 12... The reason is that you never seem to know if you're missing out on something on the hard copy cd. For Antje's last cd, the German-language track isn't included on the digital download, even though it's listed as a normal track on the cd. I wouldn't have known what I was missing if I'd bought the digital download. For me as a blind person, the liner notes don't do much good, so it's become less important to have the cd, with the advent of digital downloads. Also, when I go to Richard's web site, I can't access it, because of whatever animation is on the front page. Since I use a screen reader which speaks what's on the web page, it gets hung up on too much flash animation and graphics if it can't find text to read. I even tried a few tricks like putting /noframes.htm or /index.htm to try to get around the animation, but no luck. I will try Signature Sounds and order the cd if it offers the digital as well. I also like when you buy vinyl these days and it gives you a download card, or in the case of Lori McKenna's album Unglamorous from a few years ago, a cd of the album inside the vinyl's sleeve.
