I just assumed the list would just stop when he isn't touring! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Dec 2011 22:04:34 +0000 From: "Chris & Gill George" Subject: [RS] Last Concert Till 2013? Just a quick note from an English fan who had the privilege of seeing Richard perform at the magnificent Grand Opera House in York last Thursday (supporting Show of Hands, the UK's greatest folk act), and again on Sunday, at a small Sports & Social Club at Chorley, Lancashire. (Heck, he doesn't come 'over the pond' that often) Both concerts were absolutely glorious, simply wonderful! Richard seems so relaxed in himself, so comfortable with his repertoire, his playing was astoundingly good - clear, crisp, passionate - and his voice was perfect. His patter between songs was so engaging as well, giving background to the songs and also his comments on what others have done to them He is such a gentleman, so self-deprecating: "Come and see me afterwards - I'm not as dire as my songs." What a great idea to produce a CD for the tour - 13 Songs You May Or May Not Have Heard Before. An excellent sweep of his best songs plus (to me) two new ones, beautifully re-recorded, very sparse and pure - just how Richard sounds best. His sets naturally reflected the 'greatest hits', but with a couple of new ones - Deer On The Parkway and Your Guitar which both sounded great, and continue Richard's hypnotic story-telling skills. The absolute highlight for me was Richard coming on to support Steve Knightley's version of 'You Stay Here' in York. They each led on alternate verses, combining on the climactic God verse, and with Richard's wonderful picking adding to the Show of Hands style and sound. There's a cracking video on You Tube which I heartily recommend - ok the camera's not too steady, but you'll get the atmosphere and the sound of a most memorable, fantastic evening: http://youtu.be/SvUxn4Qck3Q Richard dropped something of a bombshell at Chorley, however, announcing it as his last concert till 2013 - he's hoping to take a year off - but could be lured back Well, Richard, we really must get you back to the UK - and to my home town of Cockermouth in the Lake District. Come back soon! Chris George ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #79 ***********************************
