Welcome! I'm almost jealous of you discovering Richard now, he's done so much incredible work! Be prepared for hours of pleasure, and do catch him live. He's a gem. I can't decide on a favorite Shindell album per se, but there are songs that stop me dead cold in my tracks, songs that make me laugh, make me weep, make me shake my head... but all of the songs make me *feel*, which I believe is the mark of a true artist. And the songs he finds (his covers) are wonderful as well. He does "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy" and I have a flashback to seeing the Vietnam War live in my living room in living color, and now the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan as well. He makes you think, with some of the more complex songs. I first saw Richard with James Keelaghan, and the first song I heard him play was "You Stay Here" (about 8 or 9 years ago, I think). Its chilling portrayal of urban warfare snapped me into some kind of trance where I was experiencing the events in the song, including the part about the kids -- I have a set of twins, then about 8 years old... "You stay here and I'll go look for bread/ And if I can, some sugar for the kids", or "You stay here and I'll go look for coats/ There might still be some out on the road / We'll wash them clean with melted snow/ The kids don't ever have to know...." You might like James Keelaghan too, but you are gonna have fun!!! Cheers, and back to lurkdom, Evelyn Wolke ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #34 ***********************************
