Sometimes it comes to life when Richard is touring. I was wondering if there was one specific song which drew you to his music. thanks, Janet - --- On Mon, 8/30/10, paul craig wrote: > From: paul craig > Subject: [RS] New Member > To: "richard shindell" > Date: Monday, August 30, 2010, 11:57 AM > Hello all, my name is Paul Craig, and > I have just subscribed to this list. I am a "lurker" list member - I love to read what everyone else posts. I'm pretty jazzed that Richard will be in Northern California in November, twice in one year is amazing! He usually makes it to the West Coast every other year it seems. I've been a fan since 2000, time flies when you're listening to great music!! I was surprised that he didn't cover one of RT's songs on "South of Delia", but it's only a matter of time, I'm thinking, before he picks just the right one. Hope to hear from you soon, go see RS ASAP!! He's a marvel, very charming and funny (and great!) in concert. You might like to check out Garnet Rogers and James Keelaghan, too -- I'm down with the Canadian boys... and a sucker for a good baritone. I first heard "Are you Happy Now" on WFUV in NYC here at work. I work in Toronto,Ontario up here in Canada. I was looking for a station that played Mountain Stage and found 'FUV. I susbsequently discovered that they are big fans of both RS, and Richard Thompson. I also discovered Greg Brown this way as well. The only way I found to buy Sparrows Point was through ITunes, and I also purchased Blue Divide the same time. I picked and chose from Delia as I was unfamiliar with all the tunes. However, the only version of The Humpback Whale I have heard was by a man called Nic Jones, who played with both Richard Thompson, and John Martyn.I think the RS version is marvelous and stands up well.I also found live versions on ITunes of "Courier", and "Are you Happy Now" which put the perspective of both tunes in a completly different light, especially "Happy Now". Live is darker and harsher, more biting - and it is better IMHO. But the best for last - RT is playing guitar on Delia - I did not know until I heard "Humpbacked Whale". Does anyone know if he intends on touring in Canada? I shared the music with a friend of mine, and he has also found as much joy in it as I have. paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2010 18:05:58 -0400 From: Carol Love Subject: Re: [RS] Re: shindell-list-digest V11 #49 On Tue, Aug 31, 2010 at 1:29 PM, E. Evelyn, I said the VERY same thing. Of course Ron Gritz pointed out that RT shows up on SoD, but I want a cover, too. Actually I'd love "Waltzing's for Dreamers" -- which probably shows a lack of imagination on my part. Have either of you heard REM's cover of "Wall of Death"?? It ROCKS! .....Carol ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V11 #50 ***********************************
