The Whippoorwill is referenced "scarlet sun on the blue horizon, hear the lonesome call of the Whippoorwill" in Carter's "Hey Conductor", on Tanglewood Tree. Hence, I've always considered the Mountaineer who "caught sight of the open blue and became a whippoorwill" a nod to Dave. Yes, the change could happen any day. So live right. Two great songs! On another occasion, he Tracy mentioned seeing a bird and thinking it might be Dave's way of saying goodbye. In Tracy's song, The Verdant Mile, she mentions Richard: "Richard says the whippoorwill taught him how to go I tell him death is just a dream but I don't really know." Dave Carter's music is timeless and if you've never heard his music, do yourself a favor and discover him, you won't regret it! Janet PS Anyone go to the recent concerts? Reviews, reports? Go get anything by dave Carter or by Tracy Grammer. Sidenote: Remember the old old Bob Newhart show? Bob's wife Emily was a teacher, and worked at Tracy Grammar school! I saw Lucy Kaplansky Sunday night. Lucy was in great voice (despite a cold). She played for about an hour and a half, with many old songs (Ten Year Night, The Tide, One Good Reason, Don't Mind Me) as well as a few new songs as well as covers by Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, Lyle Lovett, and June Carter Cash.
