I was looking under GE Smith and that didn't work. I'm happy that RS is getting extra residuals, and I even find Smith's interpretation of the song interesting, but all those video cut aways drove me nuts!!! Has it been mentioned that the last verse is actually IMPOSSIBLE since the whole song is a letter home to his mother?? But again, I'm for anything that gets RS more ASCAP. I think of John Prine who gets more exposure through Bonnie Raitt and Bette Midler than he does for his own music. Actually that probably is what happened for RS through Joan Baez. Thanks again for putting up the link!!! ....Carol On Fri, Nov 6, 2009 at 11:20 PM, Michael and Linda Marmer < mlmarmer@verizon.net> wrote: > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok3I5_pH_VI > > The Arrowhead song by Shindell sung by Moonalice with added last new verse. > > Shindell said at the concert Wednesday, that was fine of them to do, but he > can not sing that last verse. > > Mike Marmer ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Nov 2009 10:17:46 -0500 From: Carol Love Subject: [RS] Residuals..... Hey, Speaking of missed residual opportunities, I've always thought it was a crying shame that "Ascent" never came across Tim Robbins' desk while he was making "Dead Man Walking". It would have fit PERFECTLY. Blue Divide came out a year before the film. For that matter, I think "The Ballad Of Mary Magdalene" would have been great for "The DaVinci Code". Anyone else think there are RS songs that belonged on a movie score??? (Oh, and just as a sick aside, how about John Gorka's "Im From New Jersey" for the "Sopranos"???? :-) .......Carol ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Nov 2009 11:31:29 -0500 From: Laurence Krulik Subject: [RS] Setlist from Joe's Pub? RS got excited enough to call his agent and ask about royalties and was chagrined to learn that if they only play a few seconds of a song, no royalties are owed. ARGH!!! If only I could go back in time to when Ron Howard passed right by me in a disco (he was scouting locations for "Cocoon") and hand him a demo of "Mary M"!!! ;-) ..CL ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Nov 2009 16:31:02 -0500 From: Peter Booth Subject: Re: [RS] Residuals..... I think I remember Richard saying that 19 seconds of "Mary Magdalene" was used on a TV Special about The DaVinci Code a few years ago. 19 seconds, he said, because if they use 20 seconds or more they've got to pay him. :-) On Sat, Nov 7, 2009 at 3:37 PM, Carol Love wrote: > Ron, I don't know anything about the movie, but it is a GREAT children's > book and "The Weather" might be a great song for the credits!!!!! > > ...CL > > On Sat, Nov 7, 2009 at 11:49 AM, wrote: > > > >>>>"The Weather" in the new "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs?" > > RG<<< ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Nov 2009 21:08:43 -0500 From: njohnson@ent.umass.edu Subject: [RS] Richard and the movies Carol wrote: >> Anyone else think there are RS songs that belonged on a movie score??? << No particular movie in mind, but I was listening to Howling at the Trouble recently. and thought that song would be great for the opening credits of a movie. Someone should have Charlie Kauffman listen to Nora as at least two of his films have an Abelard-Heloise theme. Maybe the last verse could be tweaked as to be written from the POV of the Courier. Norman ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V10 #166 ************************************
