So maybe we could yell, "Even more than J.T.!" I would probably just grin. I know James is bigger with commercial success. I do appreciate James Taylor-- and now Ben Taylor too -- but Richard has entered a deeper level for me with his songwriting and excavation of our humanity. He is at the top of my list as an artist to go see no matter how far if you can possibly do it. Tonight is Dar Williams in Santa Barbara. I have to have an earlier dinner than I'd like and then the chairs will be moved around for the music. We shall see how that goes. (Don't stay at your dinner table for the music this time.) The last time I went to SoHo in Santa Barbara it was awkward because we sat in rows of chairs that were practically at others' dinner tables. We just went to listen and not eat. I felt guilty sneezing--and I DID have to sneeze a few times. We were there for a local jazz ensemble since my son's girlfriend could get extra credit for her music class by attending and critiquing. We left after the first set. Mostly there's been something a bit disappointing about the venue (either eating the dinner didn't make the seats great, or people TALKED a LOT at the bar, or the smoking on the patio sifted into the room) -- but when I saw Richard there it was magic and very intimate. Hope Dar is worth it while I stress of finances and taxes! Deana "Men travel faster now, but I do not know if they go to better things."
