Thank you to JR Thomann for your excellent post about the "Richard + Antje" show in Vermont. These sort of first-hand "I was there" posts are the very best thing about this list, IMHO. Second best thing is the discussion of the songs and what the songs are about - and since many on this list have backgrounds in history and literature and art - which I do not - I often learn things I would never have figured out on my own. Third best thing is the "guitar nerd" stuff. I once played - but currently do not even own a guitar - but I still enjoy "guitar-nerd" talk - and I have already given my nephew some RS cds - and pointed him to Ron G's guitar TAB site. This has yet to pay off - my nephew continues to listen to "teenager music" - and wants to learn to play that stuff - but... hey... he's a teenager, what'd ya expect. I expect he'll learn at least one RS song eventually. He does like the RS cds. For those in the greater New York City metro-area, I can recommend two clubs where you MIGHT have as good a time as JR had in Vermont. 1. The Turning Point, Piermont, NY2. The Towne Crier Cafe, Pawling, NY I just saw Richard at The Towne Crier ( an hour and a half drive for me ) - and he was great. There is also The Watercolor Cafe in Larchmont, NY - which is worthwhile depending on who they have playing there - but not as good as The Turning Point or The Towne Crier. I especially enjoy the intimacy of clubs like these. Much as I love James Taylor - whenever I see him I share the experience with at least 2000 other people - usually even more than that - and it is just not the same. I now consider Richard Shindell and James Taylor to be EQUALLY talented - and that's what I'm gonna yell when I finally go over to Dylan's house for coffee and stand up on top of his coffee table. I guess I better go buy some cowboy boots. Hell... I got hiking boots... they'll do. see ya...
