Dear All, I'm in heaven... Having forgotten if I 'donated' enough to qualify for the early deliver of NFN, and being too lazy to check my bank records (it seems ages ago), I got the shock of my life when the postman delivered the airmail pack from Signature Sounds today... I've been jealously following the correspondence from you lot on receiving the new material, and wondering if I have to wait till late March to order mine... But now, I'm luxuriating in the gorgeous sounds, absorbing stories and delicious production of so much new Shindell - fantastic!! And the bonus EP as well... It's like Christmas & Birthday all rolled into one. Patience for all yet to receive, the wait is well worth it! Love from the Lake District. In the first verse, though. the father is supposedly keeping the garden the way it was when his daughter left, saying "But that doesn't mean we let the roses go." So why do the first two verses -- at least as sung -- supposedly take place 10 years later? Am I missing something? Aren't the printed lyrics correct and the sung lyrics, well, not so much? > > RG ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Mar 2009 16:12:24 +0000 From: Subject: Re: [RS] Bye Bye. Let the Scrutiny Begin!! RG - good catch. Makes sense. Sometimes when editing work that has become so familiar it's easy to overlook small errors. I'm sure Richard will be asked about it sooner or later. carrie in kc - ---- rongrittz@cox.net wrote: > While my overall thoughts on the CD are forthcoming, I'm wondering something about "Bye Bye." > > On the recording, Richard sings "Ten years to the day" in the first and second verses, then in the last verse as well. I finally got my hot little hands on NFN today. I didn't even realize quite how much I'd been anticipating it. I didn't even quite believe it when I saw the envelope. It wasn't until I opened it up, took out the cases, and looked at the actual CDs, that it hit me. Not only was the album "not far now," but it was finally, FINALLY, here! I actually hopped up and down a little bit, out of pure joy. lol I love the production on it. Comes verrrry close to the feel of a Richard concert when he has a band with him. I think his voice sounds *incredible*. It balances perfectly between the depth and richness of his voice, and the clear, slightly "nasal" quality that he sometimes has. I guess his performance just feels a lot more "controlled," if that makes sense. Nasal when it makes sense to have a more clear, ringing tone. Rich and warm when that is more called for. Anyhow, I love it. Love it! Thank goodness he left State of the Union on the album. I honestly don't know what he could have been thinking. It is, IMHO, the highlight of the album! It is such an amazingly powerful song. I wish I could say I wouldn't have held a grudge if he'd left it off, but I'm not a saint. I totally would have. But when I say that SOTU is the highlight to my mind, I do *not*, at *all*, mean to downplay the gorgeousness of the other songs. The album is so solid all the way through. I really think Richard has outdone himself here, and I'm someone who always ranked Sparrows Point as her favorite RS album. NFN may be giving SP a run for its money! I am in total heaven. I love, love, love this album. And I haven't even listened to Mariana's EP, yet! - --Vanessa, reporting from Cloud Nine - -- "True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar.
