If there are so many compilations too bad R doesn't bunch them all together and make a cd or at least a download available to fans. But, they are probably not up to his standards....which would be why he doesn't want us trading, etc.??? RE:> Mark Erelli: mandolin, harmony Thank you Ron! It was driving me crazy wondering who was playing the mandolin on this song. I should have known it was Mark Erelli. He's a wonderful, talented singer/songwriter who I think is way underrated. I saw him once play to a room of maybe 12 people but he played and rocked that room like it was a full house. I missed Mark at a house concert in Lawrence last fall and happened to see he was also doing a workshop at a funky bookstore here in midtown KC. Needless to say I went down there. There were about 8 of us. It was great. He told how he went about writing a song...how he learned to play guitar. Tricks to understanding the guitar, and sang a few songs. Such a treat. Nice guy too. While waiting for NFN (indeterminate) and the Antje cd which should arrive today. In rotation are Kane Welch Kaplin (for some reason I'm a Kevin Welch fan) Robert Lee Castleman -Crazy as Me He's written songs for Alison Krauss and Alan Jackson. Once I became accustomed to his voice I really like the cd. Even tho he's a bit country I like his songwriting. Not on the same page as RS but still good. Cindy Kalmenson - Witness - some serious some funny stuff. Voice sounds like Matraca Berg on some tracks. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of Shindell originals and co-written material (whether recorded by him or not) which were published but never made it onto an actual record? The corresponding source of where to get it would be helpful as well. I was surprised to see the number of originals I have never heard OF before. I was surprised to see the number of originals I have never heard OF before. << The list of songs that he's written but which have not appeared on any official RS release (not including the new stuff) is actually pretty small: I Am Home Team Hideous Grin Before You Go She's in Spain and I'm in Pain Off the top of my head, I can't think of any others. He's done a ton of covers, of course, but most of what he writes actually gets released. It's a shame he didn't put them on his albums. I "found" RS because "AYHN" made it onto that Christine Lavin sampler. Thankfully he also released it on "Sparrows Point". Of course, that is probably his most marketable tune. On another thought strand.... I notice that John Gorka shows up on a couple of the songs on Antje Duvekot's new CD, which RS produced. So, I have to think that JG and RS were "working" together again. I've always wondered why, other than the harmonies on "By Now", JG and RS have never worked together. I would actually love to hear Gorka cover a Shindell song. They went to college together and they both time share Lucy K, you'd think they'd work together now and again. Anyone have any guesses why they don't?? *Ciao!* ....Carol ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 2009 13:26:35 -0500 From: Laurence Krulik Subject: Re: [RS] Before You Go... > >>The list of songs that he's written but which have not appeared on any > official RS release (not including the new stuff) is actually pretty small: > > I Am > Home Team > Hideous Grin > Before You Go > She's in Spain and I'm in Pain > > Ron, where can I find these tunes? "I Am" was only available as a one-shot download after 9/11, and the only recorded version I know of "Home Team" is on a 1992 WWUH "Folk Next Door" compilation.
