Before this list goes back into hibernation, I'd like to ask a not necessarily related to RS question, well 2 actually. I've been noticing that my radio station (http://www.wehm.com) plays an awful lot of Grateful Dead. I've held a grudge against them since I was a kid when my sister dragged me to one of their concerts. But now I'm interested in them again and I figured there must be a couple of deadheads on this list. I was wondering which album of theirs I should start with. If anyone has any suggestions, you can email me off-list. Also, for anyone familiar with itunes: I downloaded Antje Duvekot's new cd from there. I knew I wouldn't get the physical cd liner notes and all that but I thought I would get a link or something so I could see who sang on which song. Needless to say I didn't and I'm pretty pissed about it. Is this something you just don't get from itunes? Thanks, Janet ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Feb 2009 19:48:05 -0500 From: Carol Love Subject: [RS] Before You Go... I hope most people have found "Before You Go" on Signature's 2003's "Wonderland" Christmas compilation. If not, it's on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=151539326&id=151539208&s=143441 For some reason, I find this one of RS's most beautiful songs. I'm surprised it never made it onto a regular album. Anyway, today I was googling the lyrics and came upon this website and possible interpretation of the song. http://fromthesalmon.com/ripples/friday-advent-lyrics-love/ I don't know where Richard is with his religion these days, but considering that he once was in seminary, this could be a Biblically influenced song. Or it could be about a boy and his dog. You just never know. *Ciao!* ...Carol ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Feb 2009 17:09:38 -0800 From: Subject: Re: [RS] Itunes? Carol, Thanks for this 'find'. It makes me wonder (as I semi-patiently wait for the new release) if anyone else on this list knows of little gems of Richard's on different compilations. I've got all his albums and the Cry3 album and an EP from the Courier recordings and a song called "I Am". Does anyone know of any others? Are we allowed to talk about trading concert recordings on this list? (I've never heard it come up as a topic) Thanks again for the itunes link. Peter, If you look Richard up by artist on iTunes, you can come up with quite a few compilations he is on -- most of them "Fast Folk". *Ciao!* ...Carol PS. Does anyone know where did the song, "I Am" come from?? Is it a Richard original??? Someone recently shared this song with me and I find it beautiful and mind numbingly haunting. Again, an obsure jewel of a song for me...... On Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 8:11 PM, Peter Booth wrote: > Carol, > Thanks for this 'find'. Hi, Carol, Richard wrote "I Am" as a response to 9/11. Thanks for reminding me about "Before You Go." That is one of my favorite songs, ever. So beautiful and haunting. - --Vanessa On Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 8:41 PM, Carol Love wrote: > > PS. Does anyone know where did the song, "I Am" come from?? Is it a > Richard original??? The EP from the Courier sessions is called The Sonora Sessions, and then there's the single for Spring, which has the album version of Spring, plus a single version without the ending Celtic music, as well as a full-band acoustic version of Confession, and a song called Shades Of Black, Shades Of Blue. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Feb 2009 20:56:29 -0500 From: Amy Cocuzza Subject: Re: [RS] Before You Go... I've never heard anyone on here mention Jay Ansill's A Lost World. It's a whole album of Robert Graves poems that Ansill has set to music. Richard provides the lead vocal for several tracks (and probably guitar, I'd imagine). Really lovely. On Feb 19, 2009, at 8:11 PM, Peter Booth wrote: > > Does anyone know of any others?
