I received the disc and the press release at the same time, but didn't read the press release until I'd listened to the disc a number of times...when I first heard 'Get Up Clara' I didn't place it in Rome at all, but after a few listens the "vandals.." line made me think a little, and I'd just about worked it out, but it was the press release that made it all fall into place.....I wish I'd fully worked it out on my own though before I read the press release, as it feels like having help with the crossword and not quite managing to do it on my own! I left my thoughts on "Bye Bye" out of the review though as I thought that would spoil it for lots of people - it's a really really clever song which I got on the second listen through....the first listen make you feel like it's an homage to a particular song, and then you listen properly and it all falls into place, and the final couple of lines are really classy, great song! It's a really strong album, and I'm minded not to talk about it too much as it's still a few weeks away for most of you...I'll keep my council and join in the debate in March! best wishes Neil - ------------------------------------------------- Fish Records Suppliers of singer/songwriter, folk & acoustic music Shrewsbury, England neil@fishrecords.co.uk http://www.fishrecords.co.uk tel +44 (0) 1743 231546 fax +44 (0) 1743 354354 - ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2009 14:35:35 -0500 From: Laurence Krulik Subject: Re: [RS] Strength Through Integrity Neil - very insightful! Any word on how State of the Union made it way on the disc and Walden Well didn't? Truth be told, I actually prefer it to many of the songs that DID make the record. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2009 18:04:46 -0500 From: Amy Cocuzza Subject: Re: [RS] Strength Through Integrity You know, I really liked Walden Well, but always felt it was very un- Richard-like. His genius is generally in the subtleties of lyric and theme, and I felt as though Walden Well was so . . . overt. The message was much more in-your-face than I'm used to with Richard. I mean, it certainly reflected the feeling of the particular political moment when he wrote it (at least for those who share my sensibilities), but I never saw it as a song that would play well with the others.
