It was VERY interesting in that during John Platt's (of WFUV) introduction it was mentioned that Richard, though born in NJ, spent his schools years in Port Washington. So this was sort of a homecoming show for Richard. Richard announced that his father was in the audience and throughout the show he reminisced and told stories about growing up "in Port." Among the stories he told was "learning to sing harmony" singing along with hymns at the Catholic church across the street, the time Edgar and Johnny Winter showed up at a town festival (Edgar was also a Port native), and just that evening turning his daughter on to Frank's Pizza in town. Richard played 2 Gibson guitars (one quite old) and a Taylor hollow body electric. The set list went like this: Kenworth Whippoorwill Big Muddy Get Up Clara (new) Reunion Hill Arrowhead Sittin on Top of the World Hazel's House Are you Happy Now? INTERMISSION Balloon Man (new) -song talks about seeing the balloon man of Buenos Aires, while his wife is "half a world away" (teaching those six months recently at Columbia U.?) Summer Wind, Cotton Dress Streets of London She's Leaving Home (ten years later - don't know Richard's actual title for this one - based on the Beatles song) Mavis Last Fare of the Day Transit ENCORE Wisteria Regarding Streets of London, Richard said he saw that song performed at a school assembly at age nine and it blew him away. He said he downloaded the lyrics during the intermission and played it cold, reading the lyrics from his mac as he sang. As for the encore, Richard commented that the "wisteria" of this song refers to his feelings about Port Washington. Richard said all he can say about his upcoming album is that "it's upcoming." She had a really good time. Got to see Ron and also Rich the other sound guy! Richard was great, his set list was pretty diverse and I loved that song, The Streets of London. I can't remember the last time I heard that one. I wonder who the person was who sang it at the assembly Richard spoke of. I think that Beatles song is called, "Bye, Bye" at least that's what he called it at Falcon Ridge last year. I'm with Ron about the place needing a major overhaul, at least as far as the seats were concerned. I felt like I was back in 6th grade! Plus it was so HOT in there, I thought I would faint and I was in the last row near the doors too. It was a great concert and I only wished I bought my tickets earlier, maybe I would've gotten better seats. Maybe this concert will be the next live cd he'll release. Just saw on the New Bedford Summerfest website that Richard will be there this year and Lucy, among others. This was where I first saw him, years ago. It's a great festival, I would recommend anyone near Massachusetts to try and make the trip. Meant to ask him later about the title of the song but I forgot. Anyone else know?? That is probably Bye Bye, his follow up to the Beatles' "She's Leaving Home" Ronnie _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
