If so, what are your thoughts?" I saw the two main sets and though both were excellent I agree the late afternoon one in the smaller marquee was better. Everyone there (maybe 300) was either there to see him or open mindedly curious. In the evening set in front of 2,000 plus I found myself surrounded by fidgeting and chattering folks who were only bagging good places to see Kate Rusby and weren't particularly interested in any American singer-songwriter. I was pleased to hear the borrowed black bouzouki which indeed sounded great in the afternoon. After he'd used it for a couple of songs my friend and I successfully 'psyched' him into picking it up again. He'd already said he wasn't going to touch it again in case he got too attached...so I bet my friend sitting next to me if he called out 'Senor' the temptation would be too much to resist....and so it turned out! I was (slightly) disappointed to hear Reunion Hill strummed in standard tuning but later on in the second set he played the version I prefer (slower, finger-picked in DADGAD) Earlier on in the afternoon I was at the intimate unplugged 'meet the artist' set which lasted about 40 minutes. It was totally informal and Richard answered a few questions about the songs...the first song he'd sung publicly in the UK since 1997 was 'Fenario' which he introduced at quite some length, then played Hazel's House, Mary Magdalene, Kenworth of My Dreams and Che Guevara T Shirt....and maybe one more (I know we also heard 'Waiting For The Storm' at some point). After waiting ten years it was a real treat to see him three times in one day....I'll also be at one of the house concerts next weekend before we host him at Twickenham on Sunday 2nd. gerry ____________________________________________________________________________________ Moody friends.
