I know the archives are a little funky lately, so in case you missed my earlier post, here it is: Set list: 1. Che Guevara T-Shirt 2. Transit 3. Kenworth of my Dreams 4. Balloon Man 5. State of the Union 6. Summer Wind, Cotton Dress 7. Sitting on Top of the World 8. Senor 9. Cold Missouri Water 10 Parasol Ants* 11. Get Up Clara (new song about a mule but Richard said it was about religion.) 12. Juggler - funny, this song was recently mentioned as a new song that seemed to disappear. 13. You Again 14. Cancion Sencilla 15. Northbound 35 16. Famous Blue Raincoat (We finally got to hear this one live!) 17. Mavis Encore: Bye Bye (new song he debuted at the Beatles workshop at Falcon Ridge) and Wysteria Isabel _________________________________________________________________ Learn.Laugh.Share. To me, the main problems with Rad is that he's visually distracting as he prances around in an offputting manner, and that he can usually be counted on to hit a clunker or eight. Even when he's playing in the right key and reasonably stationary, his playing is just so incredibly bombastic. I always get the feeling that his main goal accompanying any performer is to prove his own technical prowess, and the sound is secondary. On the other hand, (again, in my opinion) John Putnam strikes a better balance between of course presenting his own skills in the best possible light and doing the same for Richard's music. - --V On 8/6/07, Chip Robertson wrote: > > It had been a few years since my last Richard show and I was delighted > that > he was performing solo. Absolutely butchered the bridge section (both times), and earned himself quite the Annoyed Glare of Death from Richard. When Rad knows what he's playing -- and restrains himself from showing off -- he can be pleasant. That's more the exception than the rule, though. On the other hand, I saw Kenny White accompany Richard on piano at a Makor show a few years ago. Elegant. Restrained. Beautiful. Elegant. Restrained. Beautiful. By any chance, was Kenny White the piano accompanist on a particular bootleg of "Kenworth of My Dreams"? I don't care for that song too much ordinarily--I don't actively dislike it or anything, just doesn't push my buttons--but this one bootleg has a very light, sweet, and gorgeous piano addition that makes the song tons better to my ears. (I can't even give details about the recording I'm thinking of, just wondering if anyone knows if he played with RS on that song at some point.) - --Chris - -- "We were born in a dark age out of due time (for us). Alas, I've never seen Richard with a band, but some of The Courier is busier than I prefer. Given all the acoustic variances within a particular room, I bet your seat and it's relative position to the back-line guitar amps can interfere with the mix a fair bit at an RS band show. Richard is a tremendously dynamic player, leaning into and away from his guitar mic intentionally to work with his vocals -- if the sound engineer isn't paying attention the back-line speakers will be too loud, too prominent, when Richard backs off. john Rongrittz@aol.com wrote: >>> How so?
