It's funny, my niece also suggested Tanglewood Tree, a song I would've never considered. I thought Gentle Arms of Eden was such a beautiful song, it was the first one that came to my mind. I was equally surprised by Ron's suggestion, Next Best Western. I'm trying to see it from the perspective of a person who has never heard of Richard and I think that's an excellent choice too! keep them suggestions coming! It was played ALOT back then on our local community radio station, and yep, it hooked me. I bought "Sparrow's Point" even though at the time I really wasn't in a music aquisition mode. Not sure it would be the best song for a wedding CD, though! :) Good luck and please let us know which she chooses. As for RS, Wysteria instantly came to my mind. Some more good choices, IMHO, would be Next Best Western, Last Fair of the Day. At last Summer's free show in Madison Square Park Richard performed a song which had been requested in advance via email by a guy who planned to propose to his girlfriend at the show. His request: A Summer Wind, A Cotton Dress. He whipped out the ring and proposed in front of us all after the song. I know there were many from this list who bore witness. Perhaps that song would be appropriate for your needs. I think I'd kick my future son-in-law's butt if he, uh, uh, never mind. But I did ask for a song that would hook people to want to discover RS so yeah maybe that would work. Also, I thought the song that guy requested at the park was There Goes Mavis? An odd choice to propose to someone I remembered thinking but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. keep em coming! When I first heard the song, I was in a dysfunctional marriage. We married too young, and for all the wrong reasons, so despite her being an incredible person, and very likable, we just didn't work well together. When the marriage ended I was free to reconnect with my first and true love. For me this song is all about hope for reconciliation and for bravely allowing love put down to come back somehow. Not all of us make this kind of life-choice mistake, but for those of us who have, this song captures it in a profoundly bittersweet way. And I agree that it's not a great choice for a "CD of our favorite songs for our wedding guests," mostly because on a cursory listen, it's a theme of infidelity that is usually heard first. This one may be best left for another venue of introduction to Richard's music, or even a post-introduction discovery. john Vanessa Wills wrote: I have to agree--I would think it a little odd if someone proposed to me with the words, "I think you'd probably like my wife."
