Interesting about the singing along part; I've been to Tom Russell shows there that have been pretty boisterous, to put it mildly, and I kinda wished people would stop singing along! Although I would say this might be true of a lot of Pennsylvania crowds; they often don't sing along unless the artist prompts them too. Does Club Cafe still have the "starlight" backdrop behind the stage? That always threw me a bit at first, til I got used to it - seemed somewhat cabaret when folkies performed. Although it is sort of a bar, it's a pretty nice venue, overall, and every time I've been there, the sound has been excellent. Sounds like it could be a promising tour! - -Jim 2 hours west of Minsi and Tammany ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2007 13:20:27 -0400 From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Pgh show >> I've been to Tom Russell shows there that have been pretty boisterous, to put it mildly, and I kinda wished people would stop singing along! It's my opinion that unless the artist implies or outright SAYS that "it's got a singalong chorus" (as Tracy Grammer has often done, say, on songs like "Gun Metal Eyes"), I think that audience members would leave their harmonies in the shower. I didn't pay to hear you sing; I paid to hear Richard sing. I'm looking forward to April 5th....As for singing along - when an artist encourages people to sing it's one thing (I was raised on Pete Seeger after all) but usually I want to here the ARTIST sing when I'm a live show. I sing along all the time at home and in the car but I really don't want to hear everyone around me humming and singing along unless the whole audience has been encouraged to join in. susan in alameda Pete wrote: >Were I in Dublin or Cork or even Shrewsbury, I think the crowd would happily sing along to the songs >that they knew well. We didn't see RS today but got to see our buddy Joyce sing her little heart out at the Met today in Il Barbiere di Siviglia while I was home in Colorado. Thank goodness no one in the HDTV simulcast theater audience tried to sing along. john Rongrittz@aol.com wrote: I recall a house concert back in New Jersey where a woman in front of me insisted on inserting her harmony part into almost every one of Richard's songs, even the quiet ones.
