Aside from Fish Records I work on the Shrewsbury Folk Festival (http://www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk/), and over the past month or so I've been negotiating to bring Richard over for our festival in 2007 - the end result is that Richard is coming to the play our festival in August 2007 (dates are 24, 25, 26, 27 August). He's playing on, what is in my opinion, the best night of the festival, where the three acts on the main stage are Richard, Kate Rusby and Bellowhead (pretty close to my dream line-up!) Tickets will go on sale on December 1st, when we'll unveil our new festival website and will announce the full line-up - you guys have a very early heads-up on part of the line-up, at least 2 weeks before anyone else knows! It's likely that Richard will play a few shows whilst he's in the UK, but these are still being organised - I'm sure the dates will be posted as soon as they're confirmed. ..I feel better for telling you all....I've been carrying the secret around for a couple of weeks and it's good to get it out! best wishes Neil - ------------------------------------------------- Fish Records Suppliers of singer/songwriter, folk & acoustic music Shrewsbury, England neil@fishrecords.co.uk http://www.fishrecords.co.uk tel +44 (0) 1743 231546 fax +44 (0) 1743 354354 - ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Nov 2006 20:58:15 +0100 From: "Ronnie de Champs" Subject: RE: [RS] Richard in the uk - 2007 Neil wrote: Aside from Fish Records I work on the Shrewsbury Folk Festival (http://www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk/), and over the past month or so I've been negotiating to bring Richard over for our festival in 2007 - the end result is that Richard is coming to the play our festival in August 2007 (dates are 24, 25, 26, 27 August). I went up to the show at the Chandler Music Hall in Randolph, VT last night, my first time seeing Richard (or Lucy) in almost 10 years (my last show was Dec 31 1996 in Oakland NJ). I had so much fun at this show, the music was fantastic. Chandler was a very nice music hall, fits about 500 people, and the sound was great. Richard came out first, at about 7:45 and played 10 songs 1 Waist Deep in the Big Muddy 2 Fenario 3 There Goes Mavis (electric) 4 Reunion Hill (electric) 5 Fishing (electric) Richard then made an announcement, which is the "Good News" I put in the subject line, I'll write it at the bottom of my show recap. 6 So Says the Whipporwill 7 Cancion Sencilla 8 A Juggler in Traffic (introduced as a new song that "might not be done yet") 9 Transit 10 The Last Fare of the Day (with Lucy) Richard's set lasted about an hour; I believe the above setlist to be correct, although, its all from memory. Then there was an intermission followed by Lucy's set. She started up around 9:15 Please excuse my lack of Lucy knowledge, I don't know her music as well, so I couldn't really tell you most of what she played. She did say that she has a new album coming out in March '07 that she recently finished recording, and introduced a few of the songs as being on that new album (at least 4 of the songs that she played from what I remember). Lucy had a cold and it was very apparent when she was talking, however she still sounded great when she was singing. Richard came out for "Ten Year Night" and another song that I don't know the name of (again sorry for my lack of "Lucy knowledge"), both while on the electric, then he left to let her to finish her set. She closed with a very beautiful song about her father who she said had passed on this past summer. I can't possibly put into words the emotion with which she played this song, it is something you will have to see for yourselves at some point. I would anticipate that this will be one of the songs on her new album. They came out for the encore and played Cold Missouri Waters, and a Lucy song, that again, I couldn't tell you what the title was. They went off the stage, and came back out shortly for a second encore. Richard introduced it as something they had never done before. They played Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat". Amazing. Just amazing. Perfect ending to an incredible show. Lastly, for the "Good News". After Fishing, Richard began talking about how the previous night, he had a great idea at about 3 a.m. He thought of recording his shows and making them available to any audience members who might want to buy a copy of the show. The show last night was his first attempt at this. He recorded the show and took orders at the CD/Merchandise table. I bought it, it was only $12. He said that it might not be every show, but that this was something he would like to do on a regular basis in the future. Until the process is done a few times, he said he wouldn't know how long this would take, but that he hoped to have the Cd's sent out within 2 weeks. Because Lucy wasn't involved, her set wouldn't be included, but she said on stage that she thought it was a good idea and is something she might do in the future. I just hope that last encore song is included. Hopefully, for all of us Shindell fans, this goes well and becomes a regular thing. Well, there's my recap. Too bad Lucy's set is not included. I'm down in Atlanta and thought long and hard about flying up to Vermont for that show. My sister lives in Burlington, which I think is about an hour or so from Randolph (the airfare was around $800, which sort of dissuaded me). It would be great if we could buy copies....maybe a download ala Itunes? If I've gone over your head with technical details, torrent technology is great. Basically, you get registered with a torrent tracker, download a particular torrent client of your choice, and watch your favorite site for news of existing and new torrents. When something comes along that you want, you download a personalized torrent file with your info in it, along with the info for the show you want. Then you start the process, which means that the people who have all or part of the show start uploading to you. You're considered a leacher until you've gotten all of the show. So basically, you choose how much bandwidth you want to share, and can change it based on your internet needs, and the people who want the shows share them from each other's hard drives. It's really neat technology. There is one site, Dime A Dozen, which has already posted two Richard shows, both from Mccabe's, one in 2002 and one in 2004. I don't know if they're still up, since people rotate shows often. Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of HotMail? Try Runbox. 1 gig of storage for a reasonable price.
