My husband plays guitar so I told him to study Richard's fingers during Fenario since that is one of my favorite guitar songs. It's one of the few songs where I love the guitar parts more than the words. SWCD is another one and so is Calling the Moon. Since we were so close to Richard, I could've reached up and untied his shoes but I didn't want to piss him off! ;) Carrie, I think that Bart was quoting that old song, "Going to Kansas City, Kansas C, here I come." God I feel old! I have seen Patty Griffin, Dar (many times) there before. You can check them out at concert under the stars. its a 10.00 ticket. so i went down early and met up with friends, and then saw other friends, Candy, Pat, Janice, Shelly and Julie and my own company. Jack Greenwald opened. he played mostly covers including Dylan tunes. Richard was sharing the stage with Maura Oconnell. I had never seen her before and I would again. She is a song stylist or singer with a great voice. Irish, living in Nashville, redefined as a folk singer since she signed with Fleming i guess. She sang a full set covering all sorts of songs, Van Morrison, Paul Brady and her songs covered her entire catalogue. Flanked with a bass player and acoustic guitar this woman was a delight. RIchard took the stage after i saw him watching Maura and jokingly? decided to Pitch songs to her, she stayed through 3 almost 4... i was waiting for him to pitch the one i thought was right for her... Reunion Hill Arrowhead Fishing Mary Magdelene (thats the one Maura should sing) the rest of night was mix of requests Deportee ( which is one of my personal favorite covers) Lazy Nora are you happy now you again Big Muddy Mavis Last Fare of the Day ( another personal favorite) Whippowill Wisteria Transit Next Best Western he was loose, silly, laughing at his own jokes, cracking himself up.. it must be something about that setting, i have seen the most impromptu shows at this venue it must be the crickets or the recreation center or something they put in the water but the artists that i have seen there use the place and kids and environment to have fun.. its a fun night of music.. the only thing that sucks is new jersey turnpike and the ride back to NYC and getting home after 1am but what the heck....it was worth it sharon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Aug 2006 10:32:13 -0500 From: "kunigunda" Subject: Re: [RS] Boulton Center > Carrie, I think that Bart was quoting that old song, > "Going to Kansas City, Kansas C, here I come." God I > feel old! Janet Wow, well that's a stretch! Except for the 12st and vine I can't make it work for that song at all. Sounds more limericky to me. Richard was going to KC, to play an old song he called Lazy, But to get there he swears, - - It is really a bear, If I went there I'd shor nuff be crazy -. no The schedule said stop in K City, To sing songs those folks think are pretty, But ol' RS said - no That's no place I would go They can write and then sing their OWN ditties -. c in kc - -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Colleen & I had dinner at Smokin9 Als BBQ, big all the meat you could get sandwiches, sweet potato fries and really good coleslaw with the right amount of black pepper. Beer by Blue Point. You can not eat this stuff all the time. It was great to meet some of you! After asking women at previous shows, 3Are you Janet?2, I was determined to connect this time. My Last Fare Limousine Service 3Are You Janet?2 sign did the trick. I didn9t have to accost any more women with the classic come-on line 3Are you Janet?2 I just stood with the sign like a driver at the airport. My wife was happy that I didn9t approach any women, though she refused to stand next to me. See, I don9t need no stinkin9 button. Richard played three guitars. Most notably and often the beautiful Taylor T5 electric that he used last spring. And Gibson Dreadnaught, and Martin Auditorium style acoustics. For the GuitarGeeks I9ve noted the capo position as best as I could tell. We had very good seats with some lurker pals, but were not where Janet and family sat. It truly was an all Cinelli front row, to borrow a motor racing term. Could she have been any closer?! :) Not as a member of the audience. Ha! Fishing, electric capo3 Deportees, Gibson capo3 Courier, electric capo3 Che Guevara T-shirt, electric, capo5 - mesmerizing Hazel9s House, Martin capo2 He remarked that Hazel9s house is for sale; Century 21, Sparta NJ. After the show I asked if Hazel is her real name, he said yes, the whole song is true; nothing made-up. Hazel is 98 years old. Juggler Out in Traffic, Gibson capo3 New song, got a warm reception. The protagonist is a street juggler performing for tips and sings of the fleeting relationships we have amongst us strangers, our brief encounters as we hustle and bustle along our comings and goings, and longing for connection. Speaking of which, it was very nice to meet Janet and Chris, finally. Gene, thanks to his broken arm, and Greg. Kenworth of My Dreams, Gibson capo3 Reunion Hill, electric capo5 No pick on this one as he shook the tone out of the Taylor, nicely done. Set 2 Waist Deep in the Big Muddy, Martin capo2 Senor, electric capo2 Great voice, nice guitar, a highlight of the show for me. Just very well done. I must confess that I have not heard other versions, but it would be hard to better this one So Says the Whippoorwill, Gibson capo6 Spoke of the couple who got engaged at the park. I always took the change9 as dying, not getting married. Then again Next Best Western, electric capo5 Woodstock riff - 3I wanna9 play this guitar all night long2 3Wait till you hear this.2 Fenario, Martin capo4 Again, outstanding playing. I9ve said, 3Outstanding2 before, can9t help it. True by any measure. Just when you think you know what note is next, Richard alters it ever so slightly, throwing in minute changes in picking. Shindell9s voice and guitar resonated as one here. Are You Happy Now, Gibson capo4 Big strum and voice. A crowd favorite, still. Last Fare, Gibson capo2 Richard again explained that they are DIFFERENT couples. So all you peoples who think they9re the same couple must do something, or forever think whatever AAAGHHHH! Transit, Gibson capo2 There Goes Mavis, electric capo2 No pick, very well played, alternating bass along with single note flourishes that mimicked lyrics, all while driving the percussive bossa nova? rhythm. Fantastic guitar playing. Well sung too. A song that can transport. And this with the Taylor was perhaps the best solo performance yet. Encore: Sitting on Top of the World, electric, capo2, no pick For the woman who thought Mavis was 3bluesie2. Arrowhead, electric capo2 One of my favorite Shindell songs and the one that made me search him out after hearing it on FUV for the first time. But man, did he really struggle through it tonight. Missed a whole verse. Not a fitting end to a good show, but the crowd didn't care. He should have followed with something. Summer Wind perhaps, it is August and everything after.
