So, as I waited anxiously for two of my most hotly-anticipated CDs of the year, Richard's covers CD and Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer's "Seven is the Number," I've been trying to pass the time with other new music. And unfortunately, two CDs that I had hoped would help fill the void have been pretty disappointing: Kris Delmhorst's "Strange Conversation" and the Dixie Chicks' "Taking the Long Way." The former, primarily poems (not Kris's) set to music, isn't really doing much for me. I'm just not finding the songs as interesting as her own original work, although the first cut, "Galuppe Baldessare," is a ton of fun. And the latter, well, I think the Dixie Chicks focused too much energy and anger on the whole country-music backlash that they forgot to make an entertaining and compelling record. I will say, though, that Mark Erelli's "Hope & Other Casualties" is still finding a lot of time in my CD player; definitely my favorite CD of the year so far. Anyone else finding anything interesting to pass the musical time until Richard's CD comes out? RG ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V8 #88 **********************************
