I thought the addition of the bass and drums worked very well for those songs he played on the bouzouki--the bass, and to a lesser extent, the drums, took the harsh edge off it for me. Overall, though, I felt they covered RS' guitar work a little, though that may just be a function of my being so far back and the double vodkas. I did get a chuckle when, after RS asked for requests I yelled out my (intending-to-make-customary-until-he- plays-it) "Famous Blue Raincoat" and someone else in the crowd yelled "wrong singer" He didn't do it, so maybe she was right! Met up with Greg S and we had a blast. Looking forward to the Irvington show tonight. Rockin Ron sat next to us. I heard your request for "Famous BLue Raincoat" John and for a second I actually thought he was gonna do it! I was hoping to hear more covers but was relieved he played so many of his familiars because I brought my posse who only know his usuals. My sister's been waiting to hear him do AYHN for a long time and he finally did it! My niece wanted Mary Magdalen and he did that too! He even did Willin, forgetting a lyric or two and said afterwards that he shouldn't have done it but my daughter was thrilled he did it. I was very happy he did Senor and Acadian Driftwood, two songs I love. Afterwards, he cheefully signed everyone's items, many of them buying the Che tee shirts he says he can't give away. Well, I don't think he gave any away last night but he sure as hell sold alot! Great show and I wish I were going to tonight's concert because Terence Martin is opening for him and he's one of my favorites! Janet Tired of spam? Yahoo! He played it beautifully at his IMAC (Long Island) show last night, as well as the Bouzouki--an eight-string monster with a long neck. And his new slim-bodied Martin is a beauty, a model I think copied from the classic one used by Norman Blake. Loved Richard's spin on Dylan's "Senor" and actually liked "Acadian Driftwood." Wished he had done more of the covers from the new record but I guess he had to play favorites for his quasi hometown crowd. Richard told me afterward that "Born to Run" would probably not be on the new record and that he is still searching for "one last up-tempo song" to complete the album. Will be interesting to see what he comes up with. He also told me that the new "covers" project will be his most well-produced record to date and said we will all be amazed by many of the musicians who are on it, many, he said, who are too well-known to even mention beforehand. Curious indeed Having been to the last four or five Shindell shows at IMAC, this is the first one that was clearly far from sold out. I bought Benay's ticket--second row center (Egad! Thanks Benay!) but at $28.50, perhaps Richard is pricing himself a bit too high. Then again the ticket price may be none of his doing. Probably isn't. Nice to seem him get the Long Island Sound Achievement Award, though I'm not sure it means much. He seemed genuinely appreciative. Great show, I thought...the opening set being one of the best from RS that I've seen. Richard said he had problems with the new IMAC sound system, which made him a little cranky. He got through it OK. Man I want that new Martin of his.
