Brian and Katie from We're About 9 will be joined by Abbie Gardner of Red Molly for our THIRD annual Long Island House Concert. As many of you know, Richard is a huge inspiration for We're About 9, and they have opened for him in the past. Additionally, they covered 'Money For Floods' on their Engine CD, and do a wonderful version of 'Last Fare of the Day.' Abbie Gardner is part of the trio Red Molly, and is a fine singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in her own right. They will be playing in various combinations throughout the night, and it looks to be a wonderful show. The date for the show is Sunday, February 19, with a pre-show gathering at 6 PM, and music beginning at 7 PM. Please go to www.courthouseconcerts.com for more information, or e-mail courthouseconcerts@yahoo.com for reservations. Tell a friend! Now, back to the Richard content: OK, there was a bit of discussion some weeks back about prospective titles for the upcoming covers CD, and I would like to throw a suggestion out there. It's taken from a line in Jeffrey Foucault's Northbound 35, which was, at last word, slated for inclusion on the CD. Anyway, my suggestion is 'Elsebound,' which suggests the theme of the CD without being a hoary play on the word 'cover,' and has the added benefit of not actually being a real word, at least according to Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary. Not bad! I wish we would get some feedback on the cd title and/or the cd release. Any news tidbit would be a nice refresher for the list. Seems like there's no one monitoring the listings who knows anything, or if anyone does the word is mum. R's spring tour starts the end of next month. I guess it would be expecting too much to think he might be packing the new CD. It looks like I might be in the Pittsburgh area during his scheduled gig at the Club Cafe 5/3, and if so will definitely be there. Can any 'burgher advise how soon I should purchase tickets? Are these things an early sellout? Any info appreciated. When Richard was here in SD back in the fall, I gave him a disc I'd made of about 20 covers he'd done on various concert recordings I have -- just about every cover I think he'd ever done until last year. I asked him whether any of those songs would be on the cover disc, and he said no. He said that he considered putting "America" on it, but that he was going to leave that off as well. So, we at least know that songs like "Love Hurts," "Louisiana 1927," "Banks of the Pontchartrain," "Bleecker Street," "Sitting on Top of the World" and many others WON'T be on the disc.
