Why hasn't someone started a group for Richard on myspace?? Personally, I don't care for the chronologically-ordered e-mail digest/message board, since it CAN be hard to follow any particular train of thought. But myspace is organized by threads, so topics on the song "Arrowhead" would all be grouped together; if someone wanted to go back and access that live track from the Canal St. Tavern, he/she could do so with relative ease. I realize myspace is far from perfect, but it seems preferable to the digest format. A dedicated phpbb would be even better!!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Dec 2005 09:48:14 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] RS on myspace? >> Why hasn't someone started a group for Richard on myspace?? But very nature of the light traffic on the Shindell-list DOES tend to keep threads together. The last couple of days of copy protection posts were pretty much all together. The recent posts about "Arrowhead" were pretty much all together. Basically, here, someone brings up a topic, we talk about it, it dies out, and then someone starts another one. Frankly, I WISH this list had the type of traffic that would make an alternate thread-navigation scheme necessary. I just don't think the current traffic warrants it. Sorry to bother everyone. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Dec 2005 18:42:14 -0500 From: "Bill Gardella Jr." Subject: [RS] true power defined, IMHO Keeping things in perspective: 2 weeks ago, Mr. George Buckley, as CEO of Brunswick Corp.( and as of today the new CEO of 3M Corp. ) arrived alone via corporate jet intending to make a brief powerpoint presentation a trade show at Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, CT. before a large group of boating industry customers of a distributor Brunswick had just purchased. Mr. Buckley was introduced to a crowd now made fairly animated by the decision to provide libations to the dealers just prior to George's late afternoon introduction. The speaker of honor attempted to begin, but the audience appeared preoccupied. After another attempt to gain the group's attention proved futile, this very well regarded and often lauded CEO left the podium, departed the venue, and was off to Groton airport where the Brunswick Gulfstream whisked him to his next destination. I can not help but contrast this scenario to Richard's show my 15 yr old son attended with me on November 18 at Fairfield University. I found the opening set to be outstanding, as it hit so many of the high spots of Richard's work. And as any of us can attest who have had the privilege of seeing RS perform live, I believe you could have heard the breathing of the person next to you in any gap not occupied by the performance or the heartfelt applause that followed, a silence that was of course maintained during the songs as well . 600 or more people held rapt by a humble man with a guitar achieving what one of America's top executives could not: that is power. I keep thinking about these two tableaus as the media presents its continual images of what my children should aspire to, $$=power=happiness. The privilege of parenting remains matched by its challenge. My wife & I hope we remain successful in our endeavour. Take care. The program focuses primarily on writers within the genres of folk and American roots music. Learn why songwriters write, how they become inspired, and how you can tap into that creative source in every aspect of your life.
