Hey Sandy, what a nice surprise! Does smoe.org block email addresses on your end? I'l send you a p-mail in a minute. It was Richard's music that got me my callouses back all those years ago, why not yours? john On 11/17/05, Sandy Smith wrote: > I just thought I'd crawl out of an extremely prolonged lurk and thank > John for teaching me how to play The Next Best Western (the first RS > song I ever heard - thanks, Lisa - and my first experience with > DADGAD). I was just on their website and it mentioned that Richard and Lucy were on from 6-8 am this morning. I went there to see if the show is being broadcast on the radio since it is a sponsoreed by the station but there was no mention of that on the website. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2005 16:03:48 -0500 From: "Beth DeSombre" Subject: [RS] number 5 Richard comes in as #5 in the WUMB top-100 countdown. This is probably the 6th time we have seen Richard and the 4th time seeing Lucy. Richard did a hour set first, which started out with a new "song" that will be part of his covers CD of the other people soon. I am not sure what the title was, but I do remember he said it was by a guy from WS. Then he did There Goes Marvis, who he dedicated to a little girl, who was having a birthday, at the end of the song, but she wasn't there yet. Next he did "Senior" a song that he said by a guy who finally got his due, Bob Dylan. O:)! However, Richard did play this on the electric guitar, that many on the list, said he was playing, a first that we seen him use this, but there was no booing like they did to Dylan when he switch over to electric. The electric guitar on many of the songs sounded great. He did many songs, of course, from his new CD, Vuelta, which included Waist Deep in the Big Muddy by Pete Seeger. This is one of the reasons why the Smothers Brother show was canceled, because Pete sang this on the show and he was told not to, by CBS. I learned this from a Shindell concert that was aired by a station this year in WS, and at this concert he did mention that Marvis, their pet canary did past away and his daughter, 8 or so, was having a hard time with this, as one could understand. He also did Cancion Sencilla, (Simple Song) and he again, explain how it came about. I think he did So Says the Whippoorwill, but now, I am not sure. He did Reunion Hill, on the electric, Are You Happy Now, which I learned from a concert on October 31, 2004 at Jammin Java in Vienna, VA, of all days to hear this, that the song is basically made up, no relation had broken up, as he sat in his darken NYC apartment, because he had no candy to give out. He finished with Transit. During the singing of Big Muddy, he did lose track of the words, which I can understand, as if you lose you concentration, no matter, how well you know a song, this will happen. He handled it very well. Lucy came out and opened with a song, God Will, by Lyle Lovett. She got a lot of shouts for request and handle them very well, saying either, can't do that one, (nicely) or it is coming up later. She say that it took her 7 hours to get from NY to VA due to a bad traffic accident. Other songs she did, If You Could See Me, Ten Year Night, This Home, I Just Seen A Face, from Rubber Soul LP, that is a hidden track on Flesh and Bone, I believe. You have to hit the reverse button on your CD player to get to play. She did mention that The Tide is being re-released, a great CD, but it will have the Beatle song and a Jesse Winchester song on it. She mention that the CD will have her picture on it, finally, but looking at my original, it is full of her pictures. Not sure what she meant by that. Richard did some back-up vocals on her set. For the encore, Lucy and Richard back either up on a song each from the CD, Cry, Cry, Cry, which by the way, is taken from a Johnny Cash song of that name. I want to say that Lucy did By Way of Sorrow and I know Richard finished with Cold Missouri Water. A great show as always. Next concert for us is November 30 at Vic's in Rockville for Chuck Brodsky, a big favorite, too, from North Carolina. www.chuckbrodsky.com Mike Marmer Germantown, MD ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Nov 2005 02:23:44 -0500 From: "Norman Johnson" Subject: [RS] when numbers get serious (Paul Simon-- who is number 89) Beth wrote: > Richard comes in as #5 in the WUMB top-100 countdown. Nor am I surprised that Bob Dylan and Cheryl Wheeler are #1 and #2; they are both legends in their own way. The one big surprise for me is how high Patty Griffith scored. I like her stuff, but would not put her in with the likes of the others in the Top 10. Also surprising is that Dave and Tracy ranked further down than Tracy alone, but I will take that as evidence for the recent album explanation.
