I've been listening to some of his songs lately, and liked them a lot-similar guitar work to RS on a few. Great voice too, which I posited to my wife was better than RS'. She disagreed, saying RS had more emotion in his singing which draws you into the songs more--a quality which I never noticed, but an observation with which I have to agree (and not because she will read this). Gorka, Keelaghan and Richard are our three favorite Folk Dates! I love John's sense of humor (maybe it's a PA thing or something) and his live shows are always delightful. At home, John is actually playing a guitar built by a good friend of mine. PBS had a week of programming about the 60's and two of the features (Scorecese's Dylan film and a show on music and protest in the 60's) involved Leventhal and he had such passion for what he was promoting. Nobody who sings folk these days would be able to do it as they do if not for the work of Harold Leventhal. It's always scary to review because many of us, self very much included, tend to repeat!!! I have to admit, I wasn't a big fan of his. A friend of mine tried to get me interested way before I heard of Richard. But, it just didn't hit me. However, we both played at a Bob Dylan Tribute Festival in Warwick, NY over Memorial Day weekend, and I found his stuff to be quite enjoyable. Yes, he was very funny and very approachable afterwards. And a Jersey guy to boot! Good stuff. Chip ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #235 ***********************************
